New galley pump!

I changed out the galley pump with a new one maybe 15 years ago.
I had replaced O-rings along the way, but the "remove-repair-reinstall" love affair was long over.

Thankfully, The Bus Depot (for now) still stocks manual pumps for the early Bay Westfalias.

I also needed to replace the water line from the tank (it was only 47 years old) with a new one.
Getting to it was a pain, but JLT helped.

And it works! I'm going camping!

New front brakes, wheel cylinders

Did new shocks front and rear. Kyb gr2 front and rear gas selects.

Changed transaxle oil, adjusted the valves and changed motor oil

Removed, cleaned greased cv joints and new boots.

Next will be installing correct rear and middle seats and checking rear brakes.

My front door button (71 Bus) was increasingly difficult to operate, giving me soreness clear up to my shoulder. Yesterday, I tried some adjustment to the striker plate. There was a galling on it. Anyway, I did get it to work much better but today I discovered I could not get out! The inside lever would not work. Thinking something had gotten disconnected, I removed the panel but I found that it was the trim on the inside lock lever itself which was causing the trouble. I removed the trim and it works--but I like this not. I like to keep all the parts that come with the car.
Is there any good treatise on door locks? It would be nice to fix it so that it was a pleasure to open.

I have the engine out right now, so I figured I'd quickly tackle this project.

Yesterday I replaced the old duct taped (yes, duct taped) filler hose with a new, proper piece. Much better now.

Had my local VW repair boutique install Pertronix ignition.

I procrastinated and dicked around for about 25 years or so until I trusted that new fandangled system.

Wish that I had done it years ago. Immediate, noticeable improvement.

Changed oil
Replaced rear soft brake lines
bled brakes
fixed oil leak
greased front beam
replaced spring in drivers door handle
found that my brake light switches are both worthless...

Today I did some prep work to my engine, have to stop and order some parts but did make a little progress. Here is my engine with the new thermostat, the fan shroud flaps and a few random pieces installed. I have to order some parts before I can keep going.
I do have a few questions under my thread:

Finally got around to finishing my front end restoration on 1977 Transporter.

Parts installed: Ball joints, drag link, tie rods, torsion arm bump stops, brake rotors, calipers, pads, wheel bearings, brake booster, brake master cyl, all the hoses and tanks, and set of nice new Koni shocks. Let's hope it lasts another forty years!

Many thanks to all you techies on this site for advice and information on how to do this the right way, invaluable resources here on Samba.

New set of NGK spark plugs today. the last set had been in my '77 (2.0L FI) for 34K miles & about 7 years.

Also installed a hot/hard start relay. I gave finding the actual issue a try for a while, but I just don't drive the bus enough to really dig into it any more. The relay is mounted safely inside the engine compartment with the wires going through to the starter. Clean install.

I rewarded her for being a good girl and took her on her longest journey yet. We did a 900 mile round trip to Morehead City, NC and camped near the beach. She did a phenomenal job. I couldn't have been more proud and more excited for more adventures. You should check it out!
