That looks great, we are looking for an upgrade to ours. Is the sisal easier to keep clean? _________________ 1979 VW BUS

Yes indeed. It is rubber-backed and a more durable material than the carpet. The sisal is the same coco-fiber that the optional floormats were made of in the 60's & 70's in VWs.
Thank you, Clementine79, I really like the way it looks too. _________________ "The holy land is everywhere." ~ Black Elk

Crawled under my Bus to check the transaxle oil and noticed that the inside CV rubber boot had split so spent a couple hours on Sunday taking it off and replacing the boot with an off-road kit.
Messy job but skimmed off the existing grease and repacked it with new grease and re-installed the axle. Everything went smoothly except for the last bolt as it kept getting caught up on the pull tie that came with the kit. What a pain in the ass as the tolerances are tight so I think I'll order a set of the boots off a Tiguan as many others have recommended but I've had no problems with the off-road boots that I installed on the outside about 2 years ago.
Re-checked my toe-in front and back as well and all looked good. Ready for a road trip this weekend as we are finally forecast to have some sunny, Spring weather this weekend. _________________ *******************************

Just recently replaced the light wiring in my engine bay in its entirety with a donor section.
After some scrubbing I have pretty much all working lights for the first time since I got it.
All that's left is one front turn signal not flashing, current suspect is my relay. Once that's done I'll be able to drive without resorting to throwing gang signs _________________ 1976 Westfalia 2000cc EFI (Twinkie) |

finally got to a project i’ve been wanting to do for decades.
the usb plug on my pioneer head unit broke after only 2-3 years (piece of crap!) soes, while i could still connect my phone via bluetooth, i couldn't charge it. using my battery pack was a pain. after looking for a male plug for my silver socket many times, i finally bought one.
but, when i tried to insert it, i found it way too tight. so, being an american male, i pushed harder. bent two of the brass tabs back. so, being an american male, i broke them off.
but, no power.
upon investigation i discerned that the wire i’d been hooking to the socket for years was the return wire from the rear-window defogger, which i never use cause my rear curtains are perpetually closed. i’ve no idea what happened to the power to the socket, as it is nowhere to be seen under the dash. so, i ran a new wire from the hazard-light switch (always powered) to the silver socket, and voila, power to my usb adapter.

Isn't it so satisfying to get something like this working again, Tom? Congratulations! _________________ "The holy land is everywhere." ~ Black Elk

I just completed my first maiden voyage after doing a steering box upgrade in my 1971 bus. This upgrade was worth the hassle.
I made a little video of the adventure.

Posted in my thread but just replaced my Pop top screen this past weekend. Did it the old fashioned way, sewing it in by hand.
Mid job pic with the bottom section still to go.

Haha! That steering box upgrade was a complete mess. I saved securing the pitman arm for last after a couple little test drives around town. Thanks for checking out the video. |

Resprayed the black details on the Plump Truck!
Also, installed euro tail lights!

I made a replacement DIY gas pedal out of scrap aluminum plate and added the buddy's bits linkage.
These buses are pretty robust, but when it comes to hand and foot controls, everything tends to be a bit sloppy.

Gave Moana her first overnight trial in a park in Simi Valley; she came through with flying colors!
She's the red one on the right.
Next up... adding power brake booster and rework the center link pin/bushing (which I am outsourcing this time).
Then electrical, then window regulators, seals, locks, curtains, ... well, you know. |

Helping another VW Bus enthusiast with a 69 Camper do some major repairs.
Grinding the tube smooth and then plan to put a 3.5" ID pipe over and weld in place then cut out the rusted frame rail and replace it with a new fabbed piece, add new jack and support points and reassemble.

Yes, kind of, but soon to be all metal again. Can't believe how thin the frame rail metal is on Early Bays. Feels like paper so I'll have to sandwich it with heavier gauge metal to be able to weld it. _________________ *******************************
