Just got a 71 bay with the large factory sunroof. Crank turns, checked gear - seems perfect. I can see both cables where i took out the crank. Can anyone help me, where do I start?

Next I Would Take everything apart, clean it ,inspect it, and lube it up. The first thing to do is to take it all aprt, if I remember correctly You take thecrank and gear off, then take off the plastic cover pieces ( Be Very, very careful, these are hars to find and when you do find them they are broken). Then you disconnect the cables then pull them out, then you should be able to push the roof all the way to the back and take the cable tracks off by removing the screws that secure it. Clean all of the grease out of the tracks and off the cables and crank gear, check it all out and make sure it is good, lube it all up and then reassemble it. There is a very helpfull diagram at the shop that I work at's website. Go to www.bustedbus.com, then go to the catagories pull down menu, select body, then go to steel sliding roof parts. We are currently out of stock on all of the sunroof partsexcept for a couple crank gears and a couple of the sunroof panels. I hope this helps, I haven't dealt with one of these in a few month's so I may have forgotten something.
Later,
Tyler

Here's a link to an article on Type II. It should answer just about anything you could want to know about sunroofs. BTW, I just bought a new cog gear for my '75 sunroof from Bus Depot, price was the best.

Good Luck.
