Recently bought off here from a local guy, mainly because its a non walkthrough, and I like those for some reason. Also has no vent windows, a solid side window (drivers side middle window has no vent) and I was told it is a Belgium import, whatever that means. Anyway, its kinda rough, but not too bad.
As found:
To the bad, a homemade, 3/4" plywood interior...
It does have a sorta fly headliner though....

I haven't managed to do much yet, since we have had 6" of snow all week. I did manage to remove all the plywood, and put in a Zbed. Haven't mounted it yet, since the snow is still here.
I also managed to remove those hideous tails, and luckily found the original holes behind them. The only thing is that I cant figure out the mounting area for the reverse lights. The spot that is there looks just like someone drilled a hole and pushed the metal back. I'm not sure if this bus had lights there originally or not. Did any come without?

It should have had backups, even in belgium. Looked at the back side with a mirror? the hole isn't square but sort of shaped like the end view of a bread loaf upside down . M plate will tell you all it's secrets. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Looking at the M option list backup lights were optional, so it may not have come with them, the oddball vent windows are common on euro busses, probably has a metal dash too. That would also explain the tail light hack, no replacement double bulb (seperate yellow signal) lights available off the shelf in US.
Most 70's didn't have the vent in the drivers side middle window, not sure why but every 70 I've had and alot I've seen were like that.
You'll grow to like the bench front seat, lots of room to keep papers, phones, snacks and other treats close at hand and room for an extra ass if you need it. My 71's a full bench 9 seater and I love it.
Nice score. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Really? Should we talk about incomplete buses?
All I really have to do is stab the trans & motor and go through the brakes, and I'm on the road. I'm currently in parts collection mode. The interior is gutted and I'm cleaning it before I sound deaden it, before I assemble the interior. Instead of restored crusier, think ratty camper. _________________ '73 Transporter - Driver

You should see it now Kirk. The whole thing is done except for the white roof which will be done tomorrow. Plus the vintage European plate above the bumper. I'll post a pic tomorrow afternoon when it is done. You need to get a bus now brotha. |

Yea Kirk, if you would have made it to the swap meet you could have seen it. Derek is a master of the red plaster!
Bay Window Steve,
I like that bug in the back ground there, is it for sale?

I always thought that would be the coolest part about owning a really non-stock bay. You could get away with a lot of stuff without worrying about ruining some sort of stock beaut. Hell, make your own, mad science is fun. |
