I found this thread while searching so I figured I'd just post here instead of making a new thread. A friend of a friend got this at an estate auction and offered it to me for $35.00. I haven't seen it in person yet but thought I'd ask the experts if it were anything special or how to tell if it's a reproduction. It's silver metal with black enamel, Reads.. Volksgenwerkes -- Mai 1938

Hi Guys,

Merry X-mas to you all!

Got today the book "der erste brezelkäfer" and i noticed on page 108 a KDF pin, that i always thought it was a repro.

Question is, is it a real one, or another reproduction, never existed??

It's a fantasy piece Frank.......... But let's say that it DID exist. Could this be a "real" one?

No, and here's why:

RzM marks were used on "military" produced items. Sometimes they did use both the RzM mark and the name of the production firm, but in this case, and at this time, the firm's name for that code was R Sieper & Sohne. Makers of fake, post war, military items sometimes changed the names slightly if the company was still in business, in order to avoid any legal action. It maybe that the pin was melted into the firm's name and obscuring the "R", but that would have been a design flaw tp the badge and not accepted by the company, or the RzM. Pins were always crimped into the bakelite................. not melted. Another "red flag" is the pin itself. Most pins of this era, and even through the 60's, will show some age due to the quality of the metal and the inferior plating used 60+ years ago. This pin looks new and is also set off center. The RzM was a quality control effort by the Nazi government. I would not expect that this kind of "workmanship" would have been sanctioned or been passed by a RzM inspector, especially in 1938. Because something is a book, does not make the scholarship in the book correct. There are many books written up through 1980's that have photos of known fakes, especially in the area of Nazi memorabilia, and even current books still use these old photographs. Personally, I would not spend any money on this bad boy. Wink

There have been three other identical stamps for sale in the last few months.
I came really close to buying one until I found out about the others.

Just found this in a collection of buttons my wife had. Surely unrelated to VW Ghias but cool nonetheless.

When I get a chance I'll post photos just so there will be some sort of reference as most of the photos in this and related threads are no longer viewable.

OG one from 1951 : was published for inauguration of the Church of Wolfsburg, where Volkswagen contributed to its construction .... dated August 12, 1951
It shows: St Christopher (travelers'saint), the church "Christuskirche" the VW plant in Wolfsburg and obviously the Volkswagen Beetle ....

I think this is what an original would look like.

I kinda wish I hadn't found this thread. I've had these packed away in a box for probably 15 years but now I'm pretty sure they repops. Let guess. Fake and fake.
