hey mailman looks like your on the right track to me, my build is the first I have done and is the first time I have ever done any major body work so I may not be the person to ask but I stumbled may way through it and so will you, by the time you finish the last of the welding on your car you will look at that napolian hat and want to redo it knowing that you could do a much better job at that point. Anyways it looks like your pieces that you are fitting are working out really good, should be pretty easy to weld. Do you have gas set up on your welder, or are you using the flux wire, I recomend getting the gas set up if you don't have it, the flux core is very hard to work with, anyways good luck, let me know if you need any metal I have a lot of extra stuff, Ihave a build thread somewhere check it out if you get a chance and you can see what I'm going through and keep the pics coming |

After time has passed, the hardest part is remembering where you put all the pieces and how they went.

I did the same thing, although my garage was -25Celsius and I wasn't working in that.
The weather warmed up and I jumped on it, I just got the motor in and got it running. I just found as soon as I started back working on it, I just couldn't stop. _________________ When you turn your car on, does it return the favour? |

BigHerc,
Yep, got the gas thing working. I'm anxious to get this framehead repaired, but leery of screwing it up in the process. I guess all I can do is give it a shot....
I'll post some more pictures (now that I know how ) after I get some welding done.... _________________ '64 Bahama Blue Beetle / steel sunroof

Big Herc...
Sadly, no. I have been working in the garage, but not on that car. I'm getting the other car ready to come out of storage and be driven for the summer.
I do believe I'll get back on it soon, though. Everyone here has been a big help! I'll weld in the patch I showed pictures of, and then the patch for the frame head bottom plate. Then I need to cut the parts I need out of the napoleon's hat replacement panel and fit them for welding.
Once I get that done, I'll be done with the driver's side....
I'll post pictures of more progress soon....promise! _________________ '64 Bahama Blue Beetle / steel sunroof

If you got all ten fingers and just work waiting to do, consider yourself lucky.
The worst feeling is you wanted to really finish stuff and your hand is busted or hurt. At least do not injure your middle finger or your girlfriend will really hate you.
I am happy just go to go out in the garage without any interruptions from anybody. So the line of thought is continous and you get to do more creative stuff.
Ten days off, huh? Lucky bastard. |

I don't normally post here, as I spend most of my time in the type 3 forum. But, if you need some motivation, you should look at the thread I started there called "been busy working on the Notch". I literally blew that car apart, and chopped a bunch of rust out of it (after removing 4+ gallons of bondo the PO (not Neil) put in it). I replaced the entire frame head (due to rust), along with the beam (also rusty, but it had a broken torsion bar too), put 2 new to it floors in it, and had to patch them as well. I did most of the work last summer, after work, and on weekends. I started on it on June 28th, and finished doing the welding in late October. As of today, the car is almost ready for the road (still waiting on salt season to end), but I've still got a few more little things to do. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
