how do you drop the tranny out of a 78 bus? its a 4SPD, dont know anything as to what model tranny it is. also how do you disconnect the drive shafts from the vw trans? im also dropping a bug tranny. from a 67 bug. same trans in both??

The bus tranny will be IRS for sure. Checklist:
- undo clutch cable
- remove brake list switch wiring
- uncouple the shift rod from the nose cone
- unbolt transmission ground strap
- disconnect the axles by undoing the cvjoint at the flange on each side

Ratwell pretty much included everything. Just be VERY careful when removing the bolts from the CV joints. They are going to be allen or star, and they strip easily. The safest way to get them off is to get a socket mounted allen or star wrench. Clean all of the guck out thoroughly and apply steady, even pressure to loosen the bolts with your socket wrench. With these babies, slow is fast. Have fun...
