Caught a glimpse of something in oncoming traffic that turned out to be this. Nice to see a hardtop after all the Westy sightings lately.

Saw this one while running an errand in a different part of town, and it turns out I know this van and have driven it. Previously owned by a guy named Robert who did the Sube swap (and who let me test drive the swap), it now lives in here with an '83 Westy that I did not see.

Took a trip out to Cali, landed at SFO, headed up the 101, then the coastal highway 1, saw a few, but only was able to catch about 1 out of 5 on camera. The white ones are on 1, near Stinson Beach. The brown one is about 2 miles north of the Golden Gate, headed into the city when we were on the way back to the airport.

I've had two point-and-shoot cameras die on me, but each was vastly superior to an iPhone for rapid deployment photo ops. Just can't get the phone primed and aimed as quickly. Seldom missed a shot with the cameras. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |

So I got a call from a Captain on a boat asking me if I was interested in 4 weeks of work as a relief Engineer while his Engineer went on vacation.
So I drove up there and was being interviewed by the Captain being shown the Engineer Room when his Engineer returned from getting parts and it turned out that we knew each other. Not a surprising coincidence in the yachting world since it is a small world.
The funny thing is I've got my Syncro and he has his high top!

Yeah it is. Too much parasite drag on the aerodynamics for me, but sure does look great. _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

wa syncro
I noticed this one at the HD in Gig Harbor a week ago, wife took a pic of it while I was in Portland. In Portland I saw just 2 in 4 days. I think one was a blue westy behind an iron fence at what looked like a vehicle repair shop probably NE area. The other was Thursday at 0700, believe it was a blue westy that looked to be in great shape it passed me as I was walking into Whole Foods on NE Sandy. |

Either that’s a remarkable coincidence or yacht engineers often think alike...or both.
There are a few posts on that Orange van starting on 4/15/2016 of this thread:

Duluth is on the largest lake on the planet. It has tides, breaks and a shoreline three times as long as California’s. So yeah, there are some surf shops.
