We did the Tail last October in our '84 and a bike went down a minute or two before we got to the crash scene.
Rider was fine, bike not at all. _________________ ‘84 Westy, 2.1L with Digijet, 5.43 R+P, GT Gears

I used to Road Race in the AMA series 25 years ago, man I think my knee was hanging out of the door. Glad I don't live close to that, I'd run it nightly. There were a lot of guys running modified Honda Ruckus's.

We saw a white late model Westy on Hwy 8 en route to San Diego. It had the standard add on's as was moving along pretty well when we came upon it.
So far in 1200 miles on the road it's the first one we've seen. I, like many others left mine home and opted for a regular road going VW that gets better mileage and is way more comfy. I love driving my Westy, but a long trip with accomadations the Westy stays in the driveway with its newly installed air just crying out for a road trip.

Nice photo. 3 Vanagos and 3 other V-dubs in a stretch of 8 cars. That’s more than usual, even in Seattle (I’m also wondering where the Subaru’s are, there should be a few of them there too). _________________ - Jim

That is a pretty typical scene for that stretch of Roosevelt Way. It is across the street from Louis Foreign Auto Repair. I posted a similar shot of my Westy parked there a few pages back in this thread. I live a couple miles from there, and pass by it frequently.

Ran across a white 2wd Camper in Baja last Monday. It was on the 23 mile detour on Hwy 5 between Gonzaga Bay and Chapala just past Coco's Corner. It was on a steep hill and the owner was under the back end working on it on his back. It had big rocks under all four wheels to keep it from rolling. I pulled over and offered to help.
The owner was from San Francisco and had only had the van a year and said one of his CV joints had exploded trying to get up that steep hill. His girlfriend had gone into Guerero Negro to find a new CV joint and he was just waiting for her to get back (could be hours). He thought the CV joint that broke was from Autozone (which is also probably what his girlfriend would be bringing back).
I was in my Dodge Ram pulling a trailer so I didn't have any VW parts with me so there wasn't much I could do except tell him to get LOBRO joints, especially before heading to Baja by himself. I could only wish him luck. He was on the roughest part of the detour. |

Passed a white tintop on AZ 98a headed north around Mingus West on Thursday night. Took me by surprise at sunset so no time to snap a pic.
Also saw a couple bays in Sedona on Thursday but who cares about bays any more? _________________ Support Small Business.
