|

Was out working on the bus today and I was thinking about all the random NOS stuff that pops up for sale. What stuff do you guys either have or have mounted on your bus that is from the realm of the not-so-normal?
Mine is an NOS rear hatch prop rod.

I agree, that is a random part. More so for the section than the rod. _________________ Frank

i just cut down a perfectly good NOS rear pressed bumper bracket to mount a rear bumper and rear hurst guard on my 53. the header and exhaust wouldn't clear otherwise. i wish i took pictures, it was beautiful. _________________ Extravagant Lifestyle

That sounds very unintelligent. Why not have traded the NOS for a good used to cut up?? These parts will never be stamped out from VW again!!!
More money than brains I guess, sad really.
I find that most NOS parts I find around here have some slight defect that is why they were left NOS for all these years. Usually that defect can be fixed far easier than a new POS part could be fitted. _________________ All your Buses are belong to us.

i'm not gonna sit around waiting for a trade to come thru. i had to get the job done. my time is valuable.
the choices on hand were super nice OG paint or NOS. i think i made the right choice.
NOS or not, can anyone tell the difference?

damn Ian, not the most encouraging comments dude.
How about geting back on topic and replying to it instead of just being a dick. That's what we have the SEWR for. _________________ Barndoor Mafia

So Gibbs, which part was most beautiful? The condition of the bracket, or cutting it up! _________________ 1970 Lotus White Panel

slicing into it and making it work... i also had to hack a rear hurst bracket. i prayed over that piece before i took the wheel to it.
eladio, yeah there is a chromie thang on the front. check my gallery.
props to anyone that uses NOS parts for what they were intended rather than to jerk off over. _________________ Extravagant Lifestyle

At the moment these two bits are NOS but in a few weeks they will be installed and used as they should
First is a 36 hp bus air filter support bracket. Once upon a time all bus engines had one of these brackets mounted between the air filter triangle bracket and the seam on the front of the fan shroud. this one came NOS from Vicsbahn of Australia.
The next candidate is a NOS bus short manifold part # 211 129 701. It was used on buses that had a speed governor installed- not many of those around...
In the category of random NOS parts wanted I am looking for a short intake manifold support bracket that would be the mate for the intake manifold. I know I could take a standard one and cut it down but... there would be no fun in searching if I did that!

Haven't been around the VW scene for awhile so I don't know how (un)common this is. Got it about 10 yrs. ago. And I WILL be using it!
Or this crank?
Part No. 111 198 351

I know its Watercooled but I found in the trunk of a Dasher, a VW boxed windshield brow that said "DASHER"
For odd ball Aircooled stuff, a friend of mine had a large box of hubcap pullers, the ones that go in the tool kit.
I have a few NOS Porsche 356 gen pullies, just the back part though, very odd find.
I heard Mac Jones has a complete NOS VW
Anyone got an NOS safari towel? |
