i bought the wires from a guy who had a VW shop for a long time, and who was retiring and selling off old stock. he told me essentially the same thing that tasb mentioned: that they were replacements for the factory safety wires on governors. i guess that's why he had so many...i can't see parts for servicing a governor as a high turn-over item. _________________ thebucket: I invested in hoodride, now DBD won't return my call?

As an fyi that tool had replaceable dies so that you could stamp your company logo or whatever into the lead seal. I'm sure the VW was standard. _________________ Roads Scholar &

Definitely fits the not so normal category:
An automatic altitude correction jet (governor?) used on 36 hp and 40 hp VW. The kombi is still in winter storage so I haven't run it yet. The one installed ws boxed with a 211 129 501 part number and a 122.5 jet. The 1955 Bentley lists a 111 129 501 for the Beetle.
I had read somewhere that the only factory approved 36 hp engine accessories were the oil sump magnet but this pic shows three more, besides the altitude correcting jet is the rpm governor and Garbe Lahmeyer distributor _________________ Roads Scholar &

I live at nearly 7,000 feet so the device is relevant. _________________ Roads Scholar &

Technically it operates whether it's in the box or installed so I've run with it on mountain passes.
Part number 311 129 501B on the box. |
I like your anecdote about traveling with it so technically not NOS, though I'd argue that it had never been installed. Interesting all the different part numbers for what is essentially the same part. The jet is a standard part and are likely different sized holes which may be the reason for the different part numbers. _________________ Roads Scholar &

Not sure if this is a part but found these nos posters a while back, they are unused in their cardboard tube dated 12 63, there are 6 of them and they seem to relate to the workshop manuals and the repair times books. Pretty boring as posters go but nos and random.
from the same place picked up this book of og dealership signage also looks unused, printed on strange semi-transparent paper. I've blurred the last sign so that you don't get another run of fake signs, there are a lot of signs in the booklet...

Are all 6 the same?
I've never seen those but if it's 6 copies of the same thing it makes me wonder if it was some sort of workshop checklist they used to check off things as they serviced VWs. _________________ How to Post Photos

Had another look, there are 5 not 6 they are all different. There are various headers like the workshop manuals, ie M K V A E etc. One poster is headed repair operations list, it seems to relate to the service repair operations manuals that VW published. Im thinking maybe it is an at a glance poster so you could look up a brief description of the repair and then go the booklet to get an idea of hours or to the manual to get a full description of work required?
Took another pic they are difficult to lay flat as they have been rolled up for along time...

Here is some grease that I cleaned out of the brake drum in an NOS front axle that I have. There are no miles on this grease, so I think it is still NOS.
