...so you're gonna make a Kombi of it?? you know if it was delivered as a Kombi and converted by Miesen later, or did it come from Miesen as a new car?? and was it delivered to Portugal in '51 allready? ... even if it was an ambulance from when it was new, it left the factory as a normal bus, and Miesen did the conversion, so it's up to you to choose Smile keep posting picture from the resto - progress, ok?? good luck!! ...und vielleicht im nächsten Jahr wieder ein schönen "neuen" '51er Bulli an der Autobahn!! SCHÖN!!

Hi ambu55

From what I gather the Miesen rolled off the production line as a grey kombi on 16th January 1951 and went straight to Miesen for a makeover, It was signed off by VW as there ambulance option of the time on 13th March 1951 and sent to Portugal. Not much known after that Wink

Thanks for this info Ian, good to know this! I saw your picture recently, where your '51 was on a German trailer, so I knew you sold it ...looking forward to see it on the road again!

Ben, is that a rear opening hatch option on that bus or did someone hack in a large window in the rear?

Man, this thing is a beauty!

As is just about every bus, but this one just has that charm we all love about an oldie.

Hey, I just noticed it's missing the headlights. Is that street legal? Laughing
I don't think you should drive it until after you get those replaced,
you wouldn't want to get a ticket, would you? Wink
