Yeah, Buddy! Comments are okay, but if it is venturing into racism or attacking a nation's economical state, for me, its hitting below the belt, head lock and it won't help. Only discourage another fellow vee-dubber to strive for greater heights and stumbling block to our Volkswagen camaraderie! _________________ '67 KG Cabrio (Mickey) ;

Thanks so much Skim. It is so tiring reading comments that are already too negative. I am from the Philippines and its doesn't mean that if we are from a third world country, we don't know what quality works means and we can't execute one! I know KOMBI MASTER personally and what he did to his bus was his own judgment, just like how I restored by bus and just like now everyone else here restores their buses.
Just hoping that this forums live to its purpose of helping one another and not giving so bad and to degrading comments. What's the point in so doing?
Happy vee-dubbing!
thanks,

Amazing thread and build. Dong , as some one who has been on every continent ,even the one with a lot of ice on it, I make the following observation. There are a lot of people who think buying a part online and bolting it on is a "mechanic" I'm one of these for certain. Traveling around the world, the talent and ingenuity brought on by necessity is so amazing it gives me hope for the future. _________________ .ssS! |

Your story and build are very inspirational, I applaud you. I could tell you had the passion and drive to get this done from your very first posts. It's shameful how you and your bus were initially treated in this thread by some members but good on you for getting it done despite the negativity. From your posts and pictures I can tell your life is full of the kind of riches that really matter. You, my friend are a true vw enthusiast! |
Yes, I can honestly say that Daniel had the heart to continue posting the pics of the development of his split bus despite the negative comments. Like I said,I know Daniel Personally and he has a big heart. In Fact, I have talked to him when I bought my splitty and he was happy I got one!
And that flood, I suffered that too in 2009!
The unsinkable Sharky 2 proved otherwise!!!

This is a great thread and read. I too have spent some time in the P.I. and have checked out the motorhead scene over there. There are some very ingenious adaptions of vehicles from all over the world there. My favorites are the jeepny taxis. One guy I got to know quite well was a master at keeping his old WWII 4 cyl engine running with no parts avaliable to fix it properly. It was running on two clyinders.
Finnally, Kombi master, your bus looks amazingly like my '66 13 window.

Wow! I just found this thread....amazing story! I love to see an old vw become part of a family like yours has....pretty inspirational stuff, makes me feel bad that my bus is just sitting in my garage! _________________ 1957 Lowlight

Awesome work, KOMBI MASTER! But what really makes this thread amazing is seeing your family and friends around and in the bus, and it being part of everyone's lives. I think you and your family appreciate the important things in life in ways many people can't imagine, and I'm glad you were able to share it with us.
Also, the quick return to the road after the flood is something that deserves applause. _________________ 1961 Typ 117 (LHD Deluxe Ragtop)

I stand humbled, KOMBI MASTER. You took a bus that we Americans would have cut up for parts and restored it to something that I believe every member of this site would be proud to call their own! So, as your Bus might say, "meine Hut vor Ihnen, lieber Herr!"
By the way, the Deluxe Trim looks totally bad-ass _________________ 1970 Savannah Beige Beetle - Volksy

I have to chime in on this. Having spent time in the Phillipines on a government sponsered vacation, I can relate to whats going on here. But mostly chiming in to point out my Avatar pic taken from the wonderful Philippine island of Marinduque and that I have a friend that purchased a 1967 single cab on some island in the Visayas in the 80's and the truck is still there today...... |

I have read EVERY single deluxe bus resto/story thread. Including the ones in the Readers Rides.
This one is my favorite. Hands down. I just love how you rejuvenated the bus, not once, but twice.
Even better, I love how you didn't let the detractors get to you. In fact, you even turned their criticisms away with kind words and blessings from God! I personally would be crushed if someone said anything about my 23. I would come back with fire and brimstone.
There are shinier, more perfectly restored buses, but this is the one I think about when I'm working on my bus. Thanks for sharing! |
