There is a german seller on eBay who has this type of clock 4Sale almost every week. You don´t see them for sale very often but this guy seems to have alot of them. Re-pops ?
At the moment he has a auction with this type of clock, "buy it now"-price at 300$.....
Is it OK to link to an eBay-auction here ? I don´t know, so you have to find the ad yourself. |

Are the ones on ebay 52mm or 60mm diameter? _________________ ( ⫏ ⫐ )

The ad doesn´t say. Search in ebay.com for "VW split VDO Kienzle 8 day clock" and you will find the ad.
The seller has the exact same ad like three times a month. |

Yes, they are 60mm. Most probably clocks from Opels with stickers on the face.
Unfortunately, there are some sellers on ebay Germany that sell these as VW clocks.
Here is a pic of one with the Opel logo:
Some sellers go to the trouble of scraping off most of the Opel face, and then putting a laser printed sticker on the face and selling them as VW clocks. Caveat Emptor. Here is a pic of one I got screwed on.

You have been screwed.
This one is the 52 mm version.
The back says.
VDO tachometer werke
Germany
Five 5 jewels unadjusted.
It is keeping good time now for the last 3 days.

The subject clock at the beginning of this post is a post 1958 based on the knob in the back. The earlier version has a different wind up knob which is a pressed steel disc. The subject clock is missing the even harder to find mounting hardware.
PS: I still would like to use parts of that clock for a Volvo project I have.

very nice dashboards in the above ovals. I also like the 210 km/h speedometer (i take it they are not miles/h ), good tell-tell sign for the capabilities of that car!
may be a very stupid question... but why have 2 clocks in each car?
I do understand that both those glove box clocks and the mirror clocks are rare accesories (and thus pricey), but is there a practical reason to have 2 clocks in the car as well? Please educate me _________________ drive it like you just robbed the bank
you don't have to be crazy to be into VW's, but it sure helps!!
.... if it ain't dutch, it ain't much! |

no practical issue only accesoires...but for the passenger side the mirror clock is not direct in the viewing direction so a gloevboxclock make some (small) sense ... and the 210km/h speedo is a custom printing i did 15 years ago for my 200hp oval _________________ www.oval56.com

aha, danke shon, jetzt verstehe ich es!
Thanks for the explanation, you have 2 super-nice ovals!!!
And if you have those accessories, it would indeed be a petty to leave them on a shelf somewhere, i totally understand that. You can better mount them in your car where you can look at them!!
And 200hp is really awesome, that will make an oval fly..... dass ist ja doch supergeil.....whoohoooooo!!!!!!! _________________ drive it like you just robbed the bank
