Just replaced the fuel hose and the elbow filler neck.
Some pics to show you the solution with the mercedes fuel hose.
long and short fuel pipe
filler neck a little cracky after 35 years
fuel hoses in comparison. The mercedes hose is a little bit shorter but fits just fine

fuel hose installed
I bought this mercedes part for 8,22 euros, a decent price I think. |

Is this on a 76? If yes, I am puzzled by you saying "the hose is 16 inch long".
#6 is the hose:
It was part number 211 201 125 D. It fit from the beginning of 72 to the end of 79.
Ratwell says you only need a foot long piece from NAPA:
1 ft. of 2 1/4" Filler hose to tank hose, NAPA 1055 NBH GAS HOSE
from here: http://www.ratwell.com/technical/FuelTankRestoration.html |
Is it possible for number 2 in the above drawing to leak??? _________________ -1973 Volkswagen Bus Westy (Weekender)

Sure, if it is rusted or the vent tube got tweaked somehow. |

here are pics of filler hose
i took the OG filler hose with me to muffler shop & asked for exhaust tube with same bend as hose ($15)
then added 1ft strait filler hose ($20)cut into 2 pieces

I had a piece of exhaust cut and bent into shape like the above ($20). I'm having a heck of a time finding a 1 foot piece of straight 2 1/4" filler hose.
Any current thoughts on supplier? _________________ All the redemption I can offer, girl, is beneath this dirty hood

Got a part number and cost? I was there today and they said it came in a 4ft length for $108.00. _________________ All the redemption I can offer, girl, is beneath this dirty hood

Any decent NAPA store will sell you the hose by the foot, or even by the inch. Can't say how yours is decent or not. |

Maybe I am being optimistic here but that Mercedes part looks like it fit really well. Was it new or used? _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

108 bucks
I took my old hose into Riebes auto parts Sunday and had them cut me a length a bit longer than the original because the new hose is straight and has no bend in it. I got that hose plus 1 1/2 ft of fuel injection hose, and 8 clamps for 18 bucks or so. I am going to try and replace the vapor lines with fuel injection hose instead of using braided lines. Figured it would be a nice upgrade that I won't have to worry about replacing for a very long time. _________________ 1978 Kombi

I took apart my fuel tank and filler neck hose assembly. Surprisingly it was in decent shape and still flexable after 17 years of sitting in one spot. Every other hose I will replace and use EFI clamps. |

I'm reviving this thread partly for my own interest and also to share with the class. IN 2010 Grateful German showed the use of the Mercedes part number 9014760026 which is off of a Sprinter and for him at least, fits identically to our NLA part, if not a bit better.
That said, I've had a terrible time trying to find Mercedes Commercial parts here in the US of A. Not that they can't be had. But the Mercedes folks don't seem to think their parts belong on a a different vehicle.
I finally found a Dodge Dealership in Texas who would do the part number conversion from MB to Dodge and tell me what I needed to order: Dodge part 5119668AA for a 2003 Dodge Sprinter.
I am to pick up the part on Saturday, so I'll post then how well it fits. It SHOULD fit, and if so, we've managed to find an alternative to our shrinking supply of OEM or repop parts.
More info this weekend.

Well, I got the part and it fits like a glove. The bulge in the line is designed to give the hose a great deal of flex without tearing, more than enough to deal with the tilt of the original. I also assembled all the parts outside the Bus so you can see how it goes together.
I'm going to encourage vendors to start carrying this part. I'd appreciate it if everyone else would do their little push with the vendors you know to start carrying it too.

Thank you for the tip. I hope we find a way to document this in 6 months. Might want to send a note to Richard Atwell and have him show it on his site as an alternate part. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

Steve,
I already dropped Richard a note via his site, though in every case when I've tried to contact there, I haven't gotten a response. I'll try him through here if he is still checking his PMs.
