I am looking for some 50's 60's, 70's photos of ghias - hillclimbers, track, whatever. Old black and whites, ads, etc. Perhaps books? I'm not looking for shots of cars from last months drag day....
I didn't see much in the gallery...
Not Ghia, but interesting:
Stolen from the Brazil Ghia thread:
Mike's car (House of Ghia) back in the day:

That "Team Dacon" Karmann-Ghia equipo from Brazil is very interesting. The cars were developed by Emerson Fittipaldi near the genesis of his career, and a buddy. They went through a series of powerplants, finally settling in on the Porsche Type 547 (aka Carrera GT 2-liter, the "Fuhrmann" 4-cam, as also used in the 904 Carrera GTS). The cars used wheels off the Carrera 6 (906), and were particularly intriguing in that the bodies were fully fiberglass, and slightly larger than the stock KG, as they were hand laid over a slightly wrecked Coupe (the roof had been caved in slightly in a roll-over). This young Brazilian team was funded by their wealthy parents and relatives, and it's now rather amazing how many exotic and expensive Porsche Motorsport parts found their way into their cars. However, similarly to the Bader Karmann-Ghia/Porsche 993 hybrid built a few years back in Germany, there is very little actual KG content left.
This team of "silhouette" Karmann-Ghia racers holds a special place in Brazilian auto racing history. One of them (this #7 car) was recently rediscovered and restored to its period glory. _________________ David Ruby

Hey! I know where that is! I'll have to see how my Ghia does there when I go up there in the fall. _________________ Allen C.

Take some photos Allen. Your IRS car should go through that corner much easier.
Not an old photo, but interesting.

In mid '60's one of the small-format import car magazines like "Foreign Car Guide (featuring Volkswagen)" had an article on a guy who had like a '64 Ghia coupe with Porsche 356 wheels, rally lamps, full rally gauges, etc. and possibly a modified engine. I'm sure I still have the issue around at home... |

Hey74Ghia,
That's my Dad's Ghia at Janesville '57. Here's a link to the same pic with some text: http://users.bestweb.net/~djiskra/dadsghia/dadsghia.html
I have my own '71 that I did some drag racing with in '05 and '06 in the northeast.
This thread is very cool!

Udo uploaded these photos from Hong Kong, just keeping this thread going. Don't know the era...
That almost looks like an IMP in the background on the top pick. John? |
