Personally I prefer a bus bell housing to a yoke for running and mounted very low on "stand" to prevents whole setup from being top heavy.

I was always using my Beetle for the power to the gambrel and pulley hoist so I got this instead. It should be a bit more stable than letting off the parking brake to lower the engine.

I'm curious about this method. Were you using a different car to lower the engine of the one you're working on or what?

I would not start an engine on that stand setup. _________________ Glenn

I was thinking of strapping and bolting the stand to the ground. I suppose I could just drop the whole thing to the ground as well. |

Or fire it up and gravity will get it on the ground.

Why not build a wood table (for lack of a better word) to sit under the engine while its on that stand when used as a run stand ? _________________ ----------------------

That costs money and space both of which are precious. I do have some cedar blocks so I might just go for that. |

The test stand adapter I previously bought didn't work. I won't go into the details on that but the manufacturer and I figure out the issue and the refunded my monies.
I bought part of a transmission and ground one out.
Remember when you are grinding away to dance a jig when you see flashes. I kept a water hose close by frequently spraying away excess dust. If it does catch on fire do not spray the fire with a water hose. |

Pretty sure the tranny case is aluminum and not magnesium. _________________ Glenn

Let me correct that for you unless you can think of another reason for the flash fires.

Glenn,
Thanks for the original post with this part in it. I've always wanted it. I am very happy to finally have this. It fits perfectly. Hopefully the starter works as well. I've ordered an automatic starter since my bushing doesn't fit. |

Is this the same adapter that you told me about and that I bought from your recommendation? _________________ ----------------------

CiderGuy, That is correct. I recommend trying it out and making sure it works. On the side note, if it does not work email them and let them know. Taking some pictures would help. They refunded my the purchase price plus my cost in shipping to send it back to them.
I tried the other way tonight with the adapter and the start spun right into the flywheel as expected. I was very pleased.
Let me know if I can help. |
