Called a paint shop today about the PPG color and was told the original L82 was a base coat paint with no shine is this true?

I guess I could spray the base coat and then add the clear after for a high gloss or maybe I could leave it as a base coat color? Which is correct for the look of the rim? I have looked at alot of the stock rims in the gallery and the originals don't look all that shiny but repaints do?

It is a single stage formula not a base/clear formula. There is no reason to spray clear over it. The PPG formula is accurate and is very shiny even if you don't color sand it.

I noticed that the description for WW L82, claims it is for interior; does that mean it isn't waterproof or won't withstand the elements if used on the exterior (rims and bumpers)?

http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=PAINTL82
Description: INTERIOR SPRAY PAINT, 12-ounce aerosol can, L82 silver white, check our color charts for proper application. *For all domestic shipments, this item may only be shipped via FedEx or UPS ground service.*

8251 according to this post:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=66584

I tried to give that PPG code to an auto body store today and they couldn't do anything with it. They said they would need to consult the color library and would get back to me tomorrow.

My local PPG shop had no problem mixing up some Silver white. Sure wasn't cheap after the hardener, and reducer was added in! It sure looks nice though!

Maybe call WW and see their reasoning. With today's formulas and California restrictions it might be water-based and wash away in the rain. I'm guessing it has to do with the UV resistance.

definately not cheap since they don't mix it in the Omni line. You have to step up and get it in Concept which is pricey. On the flip side, the Concept paint is excellent quality.

I second the PPG L82 in DCC, their 3 part acrylic urethane...
paint, hardner, reducer
I sprayed 2 sets of 15" Bus wheels and a set of 14" Bus wheels a few weeks ago.
First time to use PPG concept, very nice.

I painted a spare wheel with the Krylon a few weeks ago. Compared it to the bumper that I painted with PPG, not a close match so I'm thinking hmm. Then I compared it to the bumper and wheels that the previous owner had powder coated on my 67', not a close match either... hmm
My friend Jim P. had some NOS bumper guards, we determined that the PPG was much closer than the Krylon...

Would L82 silver white be the correct color code for the dash in a 1965 standard?

What is your m-code plate say is original color? NO bus had a L-82 dash.
L-82 is for bumpers, wheels, and some emblems. Your dash is going to be the upper color of your two tone standard. Probably blue-white but need your m-code plate.

Thanks for the quick reply! I thought I had read somewhere it would have been the same color as the upper color, but wanted to make sure. Someone decided at one point that my dash would look much better black........ I have to say, it doesn't...

Thanks again
