I have purchased a number of type 3 parts from Mike over the past year. Seems he always has a couple cars he's wrenching into parts.

Many happy years ahead while i try to get my notch on the road.

Thanks Mike!

I recently bought some parts from Mike for my 63 square.I had written in the forum that a part broke while I was installing it and he sent me an email telling me he had the part and the price( which was very fair)He was awesome with communicating and the parts were what he described. I would definitely do business with him again. Thanks Mike

Just picked up Mike's lowback seat set for a project of mine. Seats are in great shape and worth the asking price. Thanks for the seats and the tour of your VW business, Mike!

just got some Squareback inner fenders from Mike. He cut them out great and they should work fine for me. Right after I sent payment he had them cut out, packaged, and shipped in no time....

Now if only I could leave some grief to Greyhound... but not Mike's fault!

Thanks Mike!

I bought two complete 65-66 squareback fenders from Mike. From the get go he was emailing me about the transaction. Everything went smooth including the shipping.

I can tell he is a very honest guy because he let me know of every little imperfection on the fenders before sending them out. It was a nice feeling when dealing with someone strickly over emails.

Mike hooked me up with a perfect cowl section. Fair price and fast shipping. I hope he has a pair of late model type 3 front turn signal housings because I need them and Mike is the best guy to buy from.
Very Happy

Mike has always been willing to sell off some of his spare parts, and he does so quickly and at a fair price.

This time around it was a fuel pressure regulator that came in great condition, timely, and at a terrific price.

Thanks Mike!

PostPosted: Wed Aug 13, 2014 9:09 am    Post subject: unmarked '70 front & rear sections to cut/ship Reply with quote

Unfortunately I have to leave some negative feedback for a recent deal with Mike. He advertised "unmarked '70 front & rear sections to cut/ship". I contacted him about inner front fender sections to replace mine. Mike assured me the pieces he had were in his words "not unmarked, but will be fine if you sandblast them". He sent photos which appeared to show some solid sections.

When I received the box I found it contained what appeared to be completely rusted through sections of metal. After a bit of cleaning I found the key pieces I needed to be unusable as they were like Swiss cheese. I showed them to a shop that will do the repairs and they were not thrilled to try and repair these.

I immediately asked Mike if he would consider a refund less shipping and something for his labor. Basically $225 which is the cost he charged for one section. I ended up paying over $500 including shipping and customs fees for items I can't use. Mike has refused to compromise or provide any remedy to this situation.

Unfortunately I can't recommend or justify using him ever again. Really bad experience.

I offered the only pieces I had left with pictures & apologized that they were rusty, but you wanted something to give your bodyman. You bought them & I cut them to your dimensions and shipped them overseas to you. If you only end up using 1/2 of them that doesn't necessarily mean I have to refund 1/2.

Sorry Mike but you never apologized for anything. You also didn't cut to my dimensions, you cut them to fit in your box.

With all due respect Mike, I responded to an ad you placed describing these parts as "unmarked '70 front & rear sections to cut/ship". You didn't go get this car for me or do anything special for me. You've been buying and selling this stuff for years. You cut the pieces threw them in a box and went to the post office.

I felt our communication was good and trusted that the descriptions you sent me were representative of the item you were selling. Including your statement that with a bit of clean up they would be fine. At no time did you tell me these pieces were not solid or rusted through. This is simply not a case of me opening a box and deciding not to use everything in it and having buyers remorse. I've bought loads of used parts and know there is always a compromise when stuff isn't new.
Its a case of you misrepresenting what you sold me. Period. Asking you to make it right is hardly unfair. My shop will be happy to spend a few hours trying to weld up the crap you sent me so they are not "deciding to use 1/2" of anything. They will make money just like you did. I had hoped you would at least be a bit compromising considering in your words "its some of the rustiest metal I ever sold" which you posted on my thread after the fact. The other option to resolve this I suppose would be for you to cut and ship me another driver side piece that is solid if you come across one...at your expense.

I'm not happy spending more than $500 on something I can't use. Had you been cool about this you would have surely secured future business from me to help supplement your "meager social security income". As it is now, I will leave you with negative feedback and make sure the forum is aware of my bad experience...checking your feedback I see I'm not the first.

$450 was my total PayPal price shipped to Europe. I had started to cut out one side 6 months earlier, so I had to cut an extra piece to give you all the length you wanted & you were aware of it.

You are clearly missing the point Mike. YOU MISREPRESENTED THE ITEMS YOU SOLD. Where you shipped them is irrelevant. I paid 450 to you and 75 to get the pieces out of customs. Look I get it . You don't care since you got your money. I'm stuck with pieces of metal I can't use. Lesson learned. Moving on.

I just had a great experience with Mike.

The glove box knob on my Squareback broke and I was unable to open the box without destroying the knob. I posted about it on a long-running thread I have in the Type 3 forum and within an hour or so, Mike had PM'd me that he had a knob available. It arrived a few days later in excellent condition.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Mike again. He's a valued member of the Type 3 community and is always willing to help out.

Got to give Mike mad props yet again for a sunroof clip I bought. Mike and I have done lots of deals back and forth over the years and it's always been really great.

I want to say that I am sort of really scratching my head over the negative exchange that I discovered above. I remember Mike and Diglobal1 (Dave) discussing this sheet metal publicly in the Type 3 forums here:

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=7322123#7322123

specifically on page 7, where Mike posted rather detailed multiple pictures of the very rusty sheet metal in question and even stated it was the rustiest sheet metal he's ever sold in addition to detailing that some of the stuff was pre- cut and would require piecing together. Dave, your response was:

Diglobal1 wrote:
Mike thanks! Definitely much better than what I have now and certainly looks like enough metal to work with so go ahead and ship it!

This was hardly "after the fact" as you stated above.

Anybody can make mistakes, but I'm going to vouch for Mike on this because the exchange wasn't the way you made it appear at all, and you could clearly see what you were getting. It doesn't look like Mike was trying to "hide" or "misrepresent" ANYTHING there- your beef seems to be that what you knowingly bought didn't work out like you imagined it would. your disappointment is understandable, for sure, but hardly Mike's fault from the public evidence.

Again, Mike has always been impeccable by me.

Thanks Mike.
