My gas gauge does not work and I was wondering if it has to be the sender or what do I need to check before removing the engine to replace the sender. 68 campmobile with a 1600 dual port. I had the motor out about 6 months ago and never thought about it until a week later. I have kicked myself ever since. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jeff |

It could be the sender or the fuel gauge. There are good instructions for testing the late model system...

...but not the early one. Looking a the 68-69 wiring diagram I see a sender and a wire that goes all the way to the gauge. If you disconnect the wire at the gauge and substitute it with resistors similar to the ones mentions in the article I'm hoping you'll get an idea that gauge is ok and determine that the sender went south. |

i replaced the sender on my 76 westy and instead of pulling the motor i cut a square hole right above the tank, under the cushion in the back. i just cut 3 sides so i could fold the flap back over. it was a very easy way to change the sender. just an idea. good luck |
