I am looking at getting some necessary parts for my 71 super. I was thinking about getting most of the stuff though BFY as it is single/wierd stuff like an e-brake cable and a rim.

I also need a new CV joint (BFY~$55) and saw an entire CV joint with boot in the JCW catalog for ~$25. Does anyone know if the JCW one is any good? Any problems with BFY stuff - they seem to be fairly priced and have the individual parts that I need.

Thanks
Andrew

As long as you stay away from anything marked EMPI that is couurently on the market. Poor fit, poor quality, poor performance, poor durability, poor (NO) customer service. JCW is not always bad stuff but they tend to buy on the lower end of the spectrum. MOFOCO has always been good to me, CIP1 and Mid America whom I must say I just started doing more buisness with.

i've been using jbugs for most of my stuff. mostly because their shipping is almost always same day. their customer service is great, and their parts seem to be pretty good. decently priced too.

I've had the best luck dealing with my local VW shop. They have the best parts, decent prices, but you get your parts right away. Also, I am very lucky because my local parts guy was a VW dealership mechanic back in the days, so he knows the answer to ANY questions I have.

There are very few local places that deal with ACVW parts. As far as mail order goes, I've had good luck with most suppliers, including JBugs, Mid-America, BFY, Chirco, CIP. If price isn't an object (because they're often higher), I prefer Mid America, mainly because they're more centrally located, and it takes days less for items to reach me in MN, compared to the suppliers on the West coast.

If you are going to be doing suspension, I highly recommend Top Line. I don't have a Super, my father in-law does and he got all his front end stuff from these guys. They also gave him tech help when needed.

I use Mid-America, CIP1, and Wolfsburg West for most of my parts. I also check with my local bug guy. I have bought some used parts that are no longer made from TheSamba classifieds (heater y-tubes) and BFY Obsolete Parts (defroster ducts). I bought a few items from J-Bugs as well. All have provided excellent service.

I agree with staying away from EMPI. The only thing from them on my car is my t-handle shifter, and I intend to make a vinyl cover for the handle to cover the EMPI logo.

Wolfgang is the local VW shop up here in Redding, CA http://www.wolfgangint.com/
You'll find that they carry only the best in VW parts, their pricing is great, same day shipping and they're always helpful and fun to talk to. I work right down the street and just stopped by there after work to pick up an alternator pulley. The same pulley was about $25.00 online, I paid $17.00. Oh yeah!

Don't forget to read their disclaimers, especially the backorder policies.

CIP1 sucks on their shipping times. I paid $40 extra for the 2-4 day delivery, and then watch the UPS tracking take it over my house twice on the way here. Problem is their stuff is shipped from Canada, and has to go through customs.

i tried these guys once, and i ordered something that they said was in stock.. and i waited about a week and it never shipped, i sent multiple emails and finally got a reply and they said it was on back order and would be another 3 weeks. i just canceled the order. i don't recall what i ordered, but it was something pretty generic. I'm not bad-mouthing them, just give them a call before you order and make sure the stuff is really in stock.
