Got some new 15x5 Crestline rims with Hankook Optimo 727 tires for my Birthday (went with 195x65R15's from the prev 205x70r15's, dropped her about 2inches). with the Disc brakes, new steering box 4wheel alighnment & new wheel bearings all around, sure drives a lot quieter than before, one reason I got the hankooks they were rated as a quiet tire, DEFINATE drop in road/driving noise, 50mph is easier to converse without yelling. I do way more road running vs' off road so went with a decent road tire.

That looks awesome.  Happy Birthday!
I had to park my thing today.  I think something may have snapped on my S&S header or muffler system. I didn't have time to look at it late last night and this morning I had to leave at the ass-crack of dawn. There was some ugly rattley noise on drive home. After I parked, I kicked the split pipe that extends past the bumper and it seemed really loose. The roads to my house are pretty rough on cars. No worries.... Duct Tape and Bailing Wire?

now lets see if rear apron fits, using tailights as a reference

ops! read your reply too late...its a great idea that I keep in mind for my bug
I work fast on the Thing if I want to use it this summer for family holly days.
instead of welding I bolted the rear bumper corner
and left side floor pan is on its way

Got my motor put back together and installed friday, burned my ignition to coil wire yesterday, haha
time for some wiring....

spent all day removing thick filler from rear under body....was lucky this time almost no rust

It turned out to be a missing flange stud and nut. Easy fix.

Bought a nice, used, twin muffler exhaust today. Ordered a new top, install kit and custom radio box from The Thing Shop also.
Jacked it up to start on a new MC replacement and wide five disc brakes on all four cornners.

Pulled out the Scat dual Tee handle shifter, removed the shift rod and broken pieces of th shift rod bushing.
Installed a new bushing, polished and painted the shift rod, installed a new OEM shift coupling and a Hurst Shifter I had re-plated and re-bushed.
WOW! Shifts sooo much better it is like driving a sports car.

got ready left half pan, new jack point, and thing shop reinforccement, also seat belt attachment

this starts to look like a Thing
left rocker going out, this time I try to save inner reinforcement

Spent a few hours with a wire wheel/wire brush scuffing the floor/interior for Masterseries coating.
Also found that I need to address thin floor metal before getting much further. Probably going to apply Masterseries to seal, then Fiberglass to strengthen, followed by bedliner for durability/appearance.

Last night I re-indexed the torsions on the rear of my Thing.
Before:
Drivers side had a 1/2 inch lower sag
I turned the pass side down one inside torsion spline. I turned the drivers side down three inner splines and up two outer splines, to eliminate the left side sag. Looks like it worked:
The rear sits 1/2 inch higher than the front and now sits level. Tonight I will tackle the "pea shooter" exhaust.

| I will shortly start packing it for my trip tomorrow up to Lakeport for the Lakeport Camp&Shine VW show... What could be better; fishing, camping, off-roading, shooting, drinking, and a VW show all rolled into one weekend. |

I ordered a custom front license plate and got it in the mail today. I was a bit disappointed to discover that the "chrome" frame is really just cheap plastic universal frame that won't work. Does anyone know where I can order a metal license plate frame? Do they makes ones that don't cover up the outer ring on the plate?
