Took mine in for it's second state safety inspection since being on the road. shop said would be a couple hours. I left the vehicle. I get a call an hour or so later. They tell me the accelerator cable broke. Of course, I was defensive at first. then chilled and said I would come look.

threw the towbar in the back of the truck being prepared.

sure enough, the cable broke at the pedal connection.

actually, the "z" hook that connects to the cable pulled right off of the cable. apparently the manufacturer felt the "z" fitting being bent into a "z" pattern was enough to hold the cable to the fitting. no extra crimping was done nor say solder/brazing to the cable.

I guess the best thing is it was sitting in a parking space when it pulled apart. now trying to get fixed and get the inspection done before holiday weekend and parade on Monday.

Got my electric windshield washer system up and running. Works just like original air system. Pull the stalk, washer squirts. I'll post some pictures once I finish testing and do a little clean-up

Very nice... much prefer the black top/trim over the white. Will you put bumpers back on it? I'd be a bit nervous driving around without them.

Holy windsheild angle Batman Shocked !
Something seems Way of with the angle, and the top looks "off" too. It appears the bows are back too far, or something. Mine doesn't peak that much on the highway with all the lift!!

Well after further inspection it appears that I have some windshield frame repair in the near future. Sad On both sides the metal is broke/cracked letting the windshield lean back about 2"....which is also why the bows are exactly like they're supposed to be. I'll fix it sometime. Embarassed

I finally set the Thing down on the floor with its new 944 brakes, Cookie Cutters, and Grabber AT2s. We still need a few more parts before it can be rolled out of the garage, but it is nice to finally see it after 6 months of parts laying around.

Pictures to come within the next day or so. I'm also working on a much more comprehensive write up for the next poor guy who tries this swap. Wink

I think I may do some organizing back there next... Wires going every which way!
At least I only had 3 aftermarket switches to deal with(defrost fan/glove box light, windscreen washer).
I can't imagine the messes some of ya;ll have seen with multiple PO Things...
I also tore apart the speedo for some personalization!

,,,
This is pretty much the color of what I sprayed last night. I am leaving the original patina/rust in the interior, not much rust. Going full gloss on this old boy.

I did a few coats last week and did the door jambs. Yesterday the doors and outer edges. Going to do some color sanding and a couple more coats before weeks end.

I pulled all that old welt out before prep and have new black welt for the fenders when done.

No one young ever believes me.
When I get cut I wash the wound with lacquer thinner and it is healed almost over night. I have done a lot of laminate work and cuts occur daily. Most wounds have contact adhesive and need to be cleaned anyway, the lacquer was the quickest way to clean. I found it seemed to have a cauterizing effect as well.
