I'm wondering if this fram fuel filter will work O.K. in place of the giant metal canister style filter under there now......This would be a 1980 VW Vanagon camper with an air cooled 2.0 with fuel injection and federal emissions.
I put the phillips in the pic so you can see the size perspective..

If its after the tank but before the pump.... probably
If its after the pump.... probably not
Because of the higher FI pressure after the pump, I'm not sure I'd trust that plastic case of that Fram filter
I use the stock 'little white square' before the pump and the 'metal can' after _________________ "The floggings will continue until morale improves"

The '80 probably didn't originally have the canister between the pump and the FI. My '82 doesn't, and I believe it's original. Don't have the manual handy, though... |

My 82 California Westy has both the plastic square filter and the steel cannister filter as well. Came from the factory like that.
I would stick with the original stock filters, that Fram doesen't look to have as much filter area as the stock nor does the filter element seem as fine as the original.
The Wix filter is #133-133-511 and Rock Auto had them on sale for $3.00 each, not sure if the sale is still on.
For what its worth all those square plastic filters are made by one company in Israel and marketed under a few different names. Price really varies from "reasonable" to "you gotta be kidding me" so shop around. |

DO NOT put that kind of filter after the pump! _________________ Shop for unique Vanagon accessories at the Vanistan shop:

G-2's are also available in steel cannister style, which you could run before or after the pump. _________________ T.K. |

Don't use it as it is the wrong inlet and and outlet size. Your plan here should be not to burn up the $150 pump. |

My philosophy is 'belt & suspenders'
Little filter upstream to to catch the big crud from the tank before the pump
Big filter downstream to send the cleanest fuel possible to the injectors after the pump
and a bottle of Techron FI cleaner about every 5K _________________ "The floggings will continue until morale improves"

Well lets put it this way, If GW says it; its gotta be right, I mean anyone who can sell $15.00 in parts for $45.00 and another couple of bucks for shipping and a few more for tax...cant be rong, but if it was such a good idea why didn't they come out with an overpriced kit like that one years and years ago.
I have an original VW factory set up with the plastic box filter and the steel Bosch filter and my Bosch fuel pump is nice and quiet and the plastic filter dont get clogged up and cause impending doom. |
