Bare metal on the handle? I can always bead blast it? Also, quick question, is the large gen nut painted?
I black oxided mine for now, but it's easy to shoot paint on it now that I have some practice |

No opinions Guido?
The correct answers are:
Gloss Black on the tins
No paint on the dip stick
Gloss Black on the generator nut. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." Dobee, Dobee, Do |

That is correct. The dipstick is plated so if you bead blast it you will remove the plating and it will rust. _________________ Chris

That nut should be black oxided or black plated, Don't know how to call it in Englisch, They look the same way as fender bolts !
A few years ago I found some nos nuts at a local VW dealership , they where not painted ! I have to check some boxes in my garage, I must still have a few of These NOS nuts somewhere !
What kind of book are you talking about??
Did they wrote the nuts should be painted??? |

You found some NOS replacement nuts.................They were painted at the factory. I also have an NOS one and it's black oxide. So I'm sure you could go that way if you wished. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." Dobee, Dobee, Do |

Guys, while I love posting pictures I'm looking for backups to all of my electrical items for the '53. You guys saw it already, right???
When you ask what it set me back, are you asking about how much I've got into the long block only, or all of the other parts????
By the way, I checked my generator last night, it's date coded September 53 so it turns out the fuel pump, carb and gen are all OG to this car..... crazy _________________ Even my nuts are plated.....

Since I built it myself, really the costs are hard to tally because there are many hours in assembly, dissassembly, running back and forth to RIMCO and sending out components such as the fuel pump, distributor and carb for restoration. However, I can tell you there is a lot of satisfaction knowing this motor is ready for many years of service.
I'll post some more pics soon, I've started reassembly on the pan and things are coming along nicely. _________________ Even my nuts are plated.....
