Based on how Porsche produces their VINs, it should be WP0ZZZB3ZES200001. If you haven't already, perhaps try that one with Porsche AG? Given that only half a dozen or so were produced, I'm not surprised decoders don't have the B32 in their databases.

I found this VIN in an old picture I have of a written description of a B32.
WPQZZZB3ZES20001
Only 16 digits, but if you add an extra "0" (so it reads: WPQZZZB3ZES200001)
Its quite similar to the one you have, only with a "Q" instead of the "0" for vehicle type.
Worth a try... _________________ 1991 VW Multivan syncro 1,9 TD |

Yes, it's mistake, it's not "Q", but "O". |

The first digit of the VIN suppose to mean the country that it made. Sadly this is not always true. MINI's start with a W and they are made in England [Which I believe is S]. I've seen some new Honda's with an S. Cars are made and shipped everywhere now.
VIN's have a lot of good information but some manufacturers do not follow the rules. |

Is this a real one or a tribute? It’s obviously an ‘80 due to the metal air vent at the rear. It’s had work done as it has late model rear Windows. The whitestar interior is nice but seems like the Porsche vans had leather, no? It’s also missing the Porsche diffuser panel under the rear bumper. All in all it’s a beautiful van for sure, I just wonder if I t rolled off the assembly line as a Porsche. |

The ad says it's a 1980, but then says it's an "original conversion" with a new motor. If they were going to do a tribute, why convert an '80 and not a later one with a radiator? Oh well.. sure looks nice for a tribute though. |

B32s were based on '84/85 watercooled Caravelle Carats.
This one is based on a '80 aircooled body and has a '88+ Xstar/LLE interior _________________ Zoltan

It's aircooled, right?
I met a guy at Northwest Mogfest who had a really clean aircooled westy with a 911 engine. Really nice swap, and I loved the fact that he started with an aircooled chassis. |

all that work and no brake upgrades? I'm guessing they went with an air-cooled chassis for the sunroof. The rear vents kill the correctness to be a B32. _________________ Vanagon/Transporter flares here: www.terrawagen.com

They really should black out the panel from the rear vents to the front window, especially on a lighter color van. _________________ Casey--

That looks sweet. I'm not too familiar with all the Porsche engine variants, but why does it have what appears to be a coolant reservoir?

My guess for the coolant Res would be fuel for the diesel fired cabin heater, but that's a WAG.
I like how they modified the firewall and boxed it all in. This is what happens when you talented German hobbyists and long cold winters.

It's interesting that the engine seems to be mounted quite low in this one. Usually, these Carrera powered vans have the rear luggage area raised about 6 inches to mount the engine higher. This one seems to have the engine fitting below the stock deck height - even with the stock air box in place. It would be nice to see a photo from the rear to see how low the drive train is really sitting.
Looks like it was really well done. But I guess for the asking price, it should be. |
