Did you preload the pump diaphram? I believe you need to do the 25 horse pumps like the 65 and later fuel pumps.

Do you mean it's installed on the car and won't pump?

I've had to prime a later pump by hand before, I think there was an air bubble stuck inside that normal cranking would not clear for some reason.

There is a jig to assemble the pump correctly that you could duplicate with a correct length bolt and piece of wood.

Thanks for the responses. Yeah, I preeloaded the diapham, but maybe not enough? I think my problem is what Everett said, "air bubble in the line. I am going to try prime the pump and I will also try jacking the front end up to push the fuel down the line and the bubble up towards the tank.

Thanks
Josh

So, Everett was right. I jacked up the front and the pump started working great. Thanks. But now I have a new problem.

Last year my last ride in it left me and my girlfriend stranded. Didn't want to fix it over the winter because then I would want to drive it Laughing . Anyway I thought it was the fuel pump or carb, so I rebuilt them, glad I did but I don't believe that is the problem. The car starts and runs great for about 15-20 minutes. Then it start sounding like it is missing alittle, hesitating, starving for fuel, and then dies. Today I ran it at home for abit and the same started. While this was going on I was inspecting the engine and noticed the intake manifold was cold as hell under the carb. The intake is icing. I am going to take off the exhast and see if the exhast end going to the heat risers are clogged. Any other suggestions?

You might also not be getting air into the tank - next time it happens, immediately remove the gas cap - if you can't remove it - or air rushes in when you turn it, that's your problem.

Check your fuel delivery end to end. I had a similar problem with my oval last year.

Thanks for the replies. After reading some threads earlier I went out and checked my oil. Sure enough it was very thin and a bit watery, seams to be fuel in the oil. I just changed the oil before my last trip too. I think I am going to pull my exhaust and check out the pre heat tubes. It will be a pain, but I think it is my problem. I will let you know if it isn't Laughing

fuel in the oil is a bad diaphram in your fuel pump and must be changed. don't forget to change your oil too. no air in tank as indicated in the last response should be checked too.
