Some discussions here:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=376311
I won't rehash the discussion, but the links to the "Volkswagen" are improperly stated... the term "volkswagen" was in common use, and his claim for the "capital V" car implies links that did not exist.
Nonetheless, VW saw fit to pay some restitution to his family in the late '50s/early '60s (I'm looking for the specifics). And he was treated like shit for many many years. Worthy to read and learn.
...but take it with a grain of salt... as you should "Small Wonder," too. |

just caught the second half of this film - the two headed spy, 1958 starring jack hawkins and gia scala. jack drives a rather ropey looking white kubel into the woods. in other scenes there are three other kubels in better knick plus two schwimmers. one with strange fenders...available on youtube

My son selected a kid friendly movie tonight...."Dennis the Menace (1993)" popped up on the Netflix que and we watched. There is a part where a photographer came to Mr. Wilson's house....a blue beetle is in the background. It's hard to tell, maybe a mid 60's model with maybe some over-rider bumpers. _________________ B r i a n

The segment of the "Sunday Morning" show from last week was about the CBS "eye" logo and its retiring unofficial historian. I spotted this on his table, took a snapshot off the TV, and did my best to correct the perspective.
Appears to be a trade magazine featuring a VW Bus, presumably a mobile TV/radio station. I bet there are photos of it in the gallery somewhere.
EDIT: Sure 'nuff, here it is in the Classifieds! A photo of a mobileTV repair vehicle. Even came with the optional accessory dog!
The pamphlet was an ad for NRI, a trade school popular in the '50s and '60s as the consumer electronics market skyrocketed.
Gotta love the"atomic" logo at upper right! Oh, 1958 was a good year!
Ad (not mine) is still up if your are interested:

Jojo Rabbit, 2019. The movie takes place at the end of the war in 1945.

The "Carol Burnett Show", season 6, episode 8 @ 1972. Comedy skit featuring Jerry Stiller as he gets into a minor accident with his Beetle sunroof with Harvey Korman who's driving a ~ 1970 Toyota Corona Deluxe. They both accuse each other and get into an argument, and ultimately a fist fight. Korman kicks the hubcap and the slotted beauty ring off the Beetle's right front wheel. Smoothie rims and slanted vent window support indicate a 1965. The sunroof is clearly seen later in the skit.
Next, the accident is redone per the women's perspective, with Carol Burnett (Beetle) and Anne Meara (Toyota). The Beetle has a bit more damage now, with the right front fender partially detached. They both regard the accident almost as a frivolity, then walk off in good humor together.

Good perspective contrast. There is no need to kill someone that make a mistake. We all are guilty of this at times in our lives. I’m so tired of all this “tough guy” attitude over every little thing. No need to shoot them, no matter their denial. Some folks seem so anxious to do just that. Flame suit on. _________________ Jack Staggs

TV commercial* for the home DNA test kit "23andMe" from 2017 has a few VW-powered vehicles. The heavily freckled African-American woman in the orange shirt partakes in many fun activities. The 1970's bay window Type 2 has its front wheels turned into the street, and a second later turned towards the curb.
The 3 rail buggies have VW engines and also front axles.
