I was reliving my childhood watching old Unsolved Mysteries episodes from the ‘90’s and spotted this Baja. The driver described as an “off road enthusiast” spotted a woman in the desert who turned out to be kidnapped and later murdered. Ouch.

Continuing my post from Dec. 2022: Kuebelwagen seen in the American TV show "The Rat Patrol" from 1966 thru 1968, showing missions of an small Allied 2-Jeep commando team making long-range patrols in the North African desert. The German army unit leader is Hauptmann Dietrich, played by Hans Gudegast (later changed his name to Eric Braeden; sitting up in the 1st 2 photos).

That was fun, watching all those splits buzzing around. _________________ “If you care for a thing long enough, it takes on a life of its own, doesn't it? Mending old things, preserving them, looking after them – on some level there's no rational grounds for it.”

Silver '71/'72 Beetle Karmann Cabrio; customized, German movie "Alter Khan junge Liebe" 1973 (translated Old Khan, young love). Hard to read small decal behind doors lists "MAHAG Tuning". MAHAG was Munich's largest VW dealer and manufactured some Type 1 engine performance parts. Note the auxiliary front-mounted oil cooler, filled rear apron cutouts, the dual-tip exhaust header (Sauer & Sohn?), different wheels.

In "Hunters" on Prime, in Season 2 Episode 7, three WW2 vehicles pull up in front of a German house. First one is a Kubelwagen, third is a Schwimmwagen. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. The '71 now has the 1835 engine, swapped from the '70. Second owner of each. 1988 Mazda B2200 truck, 1998 Frontier, 2014 Yukon, 2004 Frontier King Cab. All manual transmission except for the Yukon. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=335294 http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=335297 |

The '66 Beetle Karmann Cabrio in this 1975 movie. Main character Bobby (played by "American Graffiti" hot rodder actor Paul LeMat) borrows his GF Rose's Beetle instead of his modified red early Camaro. Note the roof patched with many stickers. Filmed in Los Angeles, CA.
Splittie bus and 2 Beetles parked across the street:

VW engine (?) in a hydrocopter, movie "Bear Island" (1979). The engine drives a large propeller similar to an air boat. The "'copter's" smooth bottom allows skimming over snow, and even on water as seen later in the movie.
Wikipedia mentions that the engine is an "aviation engine" but the stamped steel VW valve cover is clearly seen.
Windshield wipers look like early 1960's Beetle units.

Red Denzel Austrian-built sports car with VW-based highly modified engine, German movie "Kein Mann zum Heiraten" (1959, translated No man to marry). He won the race.
Black & white Police Beetle Karmann Cabrio, German movie "Das blaue Meer und Du" (1959; translated The blue sea and you). Verkehrs Polizei = traffic police. Looks like a pope's nose and pre-heart taillamps.
Saturn Yellow 1973 Super Beetle special edition Sports Bug in intersection, TV show "Harry O" S1E6 "Eyewitness" (1974). It proceeds onto the street in front of main character David Janssen on left, but a full shot of its front is then blocked by the right policeman.
Another "Harry O" episode S1E21 "Elegy for a Cop" (1975). 9 Beetle sedans, 1 Beetle Karmann Cabrio, and a Karmann Ghia Coupe (center). Harry Orwell is riding the police motorcycle thru the parking lot, chasing a suspect on an enduro bike.

I'm surprised nobody has shown VWs from the popular TV show "Charlie's Angels"...
Orange late fuel-injected Cabrio parked, TV show "Charlies Angels" final episode "Let our Angel live" S5E16, 1981. Angel Kelly Garrett (Jaclyn Smith) getting out of her beige Mustang II.
Orange late Cabrio parked in background, TV show "Charlie's Angels" S4E14 "Angel's Child" (1980).
Red ~'65 in driveway, same episode:
Orange '73 parked, then down the street in traffic. TV show "Hunter", season 1 ep. 1, 1984.
Red Cabrio parked on Manhattan street, movie "Diary of a Mad Housewife" (1970). Man in beige coat is main character played by Richard Benjamin. |

Yellow rail buggy, MotorTrend Channel show "Roadkill Garage" episode 39 "Boon Duggy" 2019. Host David Freiburger (foreground) and guest host Steve Dulcich (his leg ) revive a very cheaply bought, long-parked buggy with a 40 hp engine and link pin front beam-
then drive it along the dirt roads near/on Steve's farm in California.
And briefly getting it stuck in the sand,
as well as rolling it over when going around a curve too fast- both guys and the buggy were OK.
During the workshop prep session, both guys mention that neither has ever worked on any VW-powered vehicle. The generator was clocked 1/4 turn to the left at one point, a rookie mistake. But moments later and as seen in the first photo, the gen is in the correct position. |

There's a dedicated thread for Ghia sightings specifically in MOVIES in the Ghia Forum, yet there are many sightings on TV shows. So I'll put a few of those here:
Ghia Cabrio, German TV crime drama "Der Kommissar" episode "Keiner hoerte den Schuss" (nobody heard the shot). Filmed in the Munich, Germany area. Police commissioner (Kommissar) Keller is on the right, played by Erik Ode.
Early '60's Ghia Coupe (contrasting paint color on A-pillar; no hole for choke knob) in a Munich-area junkyard, "Der Kommissar", season 2 episode 1 "Der Papierblumenmoerder" (1970). Translated The Commissioner, the paper flower murder.
Black with white roof Ghia Coupe in traffic, German TV program "PS Geschichten 1975" (translated Horsepower stories).
Orange Ghia Coupe, TV show "Police Woman" episode "Blast" (1975). Main actor Angie Dickinson and guest actor Robert Vaughn.
Ivory early '60's Ghia Coupe, TV show "O'Hara US Treasury" episode "Operation Bribery", S1E4 1971. Main character on left, played by David Janssen.
