|
|
Hi all, I have a T4 in my 912E that has seized while visiting Columbus OH and am considering having it rebuilt here if there is a specialist that A) Really knows vintage VW/Porsche T4 motors and B) Can also handle the fact this motor was modded with a LN Engineering 2270 kit.
I did some research and one place that looks like a frontrunner is RED BARN RESTORATIONS.
Others: Motorkars, Acceleration, Evans.
Thoughts? |

I just realized I do have previous experience with Motorkars which was favorable (they worked on the same car another time I was visiting and the throttle cable broke - fixed it on the spot. Just not sure if they are into doing a semi complex motor rebuild). The other option that I'm leaning towards is Red Barn Restorations but that seems more like a guy working out of his home sort of scenario (no address listed). Hoping for some first hand comments here thanks! |

I would head over to Dayton Ohio. There aren’t too many if any shops in the Columbus area that handle much air cooled stuff anymore. But two or three shops in Dayton. Jim’s in Columbiana Ohio is maybe and hour and half but he always has a waiting list. But worth a try. I will try to post up numbers here in a bit but a bit of searching online will find them.
Jim’s custom VW in Columbiana tel: (330) 482-0018
Larry’s off-road center in Dayton (234) 567-890
These should get you heading in the right direction. I have had machine work done at Jim’s and bought several things from Larry’s and both are good shops.
Should also mention I lived in Columbus area (Galloway) for about three years. The big shop there only wants to work on modern stuff but I guess you could talk to them but the other two I suggested are air cooled guys to the core. _________________ Looking for anything from Hal Casey Motors out of Hamburg New York, from license plate surrounds to matchbooks.

No experience with the guy you listed, but keep us posted with how it goes. Always looking to expand my network of shops to use. _________________ Looking for anything from Hal Casey Motors out of Hamburg New York, from license plate surrounds to matchbooks.
