|
|
It used to be that you just cut both of the loops to set the tach for a 4-cylinder. But now the new ones you cut one for a 2-pulse 4-cylinder and both for a 1-pulse engine. I'm running a 6AL box.
Anyone help me out with this? May sound basic but I don't know...
Thanks. |

What is tach model number?
Will bet its a "2 pulse" setting that will work for you.

Kind of what I'm starting to think too. It's a 3911.
Thanks. |

Well that's the thing, there is an old one and a new one. The instructions with my guage are like the pic posted above - a brown and blue loop, no orange. That's why I am confused - because they seem to have changed the electronics but haven't made it clear as to what to do. |

So cut 'em up till it works right. You can always splice them back together if it doesn't work; they're just wires. _________________ Build thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=212747

Actually the call needs to be made to AUTO METER...
MSD box just supplies the pulse same as dist points would...

Just called Auto Meter and it needs to be set for a 2-pulse system. So, only cut the one wire.
FYI - anyone who runs across this problem. |

MSD box should not be issue because it triggers on distributor and so if you use dist and "2 pulses" to get correct rev count without MSD box, then it will be same WITH MSD box....

I'm confused, I'm running a stock 1600 with stock ignition. I tried to install the auto meter tach and for some reason I'm not getting a reading. It's really low. I was wondering how many pulses a stock setup has so I can clip the correct loop. _________________ ~~~~~~> LEE <~~~~~~

Is red wire to 12 volts (when key on)...
Black wire to ground...
Green wire to negative (-) side of coil
White wire to instrument lighting circuit...
Did you cut the blue loop at tach?

I got all that, and then I cut the blue loop with no change. Then I was like... Well maybe I need to cut the other loop too so I did and still no change. When the ignition is turned on it goes to zero then when the engine starts it goes back to 1... When I rev it, it barely moves. _________________ ~~~~~~> LEE <~~~~~~
