Thought of this old post when I used mine to haul the PA gear for an outdoor wedding this past weekend. Some friends were getting married outdoors at her parents' farm, and asked me to provide the sound. Sure, I could've thrown it all in the back of my little pickup, but what's the fun with that?!? Besides, they were predicting thundershowers so I needed to have a covered vehicle just in case.
It all fit in great, and I still took my wife and youngest daughter with me. Got there, set it all up, and then pulled the curtains and washed up and changed into my good clothes. It's amazing how versatile these old busses are!
Lots of cool comments from folks there, including one older guy who said he remembers several day care centers in town using these Transporters back in the day . . . He said they typically hauled about 20 kids in each bus!

That's awesome. I don't have pics, but in building the fence for the house, I loaded up on 4x4x10 posts, and many 2x4x10 redwood boards, and the previous weekend saw a 3/4" 4x8 sheet of plywood and various other pieces of wood at Home Depot. Was funny to watch the Panel Van swallow those up no problem, and have these huge turbo diesel pickups next to me with most of their load sticking out of their beds! _________________ 1972 Porsche 911E

We hauled a similar system in my bus once, and plugged it in using my inverter.
Man that was loud! Holy crap!
...but awesome. |

You can load in a TON of what ever. I use to haul 5 people and all the ski gear and still pull the hills at 60mph. That was in my 64 with dual 500 webbers. _________________ As they say, "You never know until you ask the question."

Helped a friend move today... what a champ. We had a loveseat, a dresser, a BBQ, lamps, boxes - all kinds of crap in there (all within two loads). Held at least as much as the F-150 - and kept everything dry at the same time!
You can slide a twin bed right in the rear hatch!
Good bus.

Before I owned a trailer I had to use my bus to haul some wood. The wood extended to the very front of the bus. It got the job done but the lumber yard worker thought I was crazy! lol
The bus is to nice to haul wood now, glad I have a trailer!!

I did the same thing with a prehung exterior door. It was raining and the whole thing fit inside quite nicely while the bloke next to me in the big Dodge was watching his new lumber get soaked! |

dandaz's wonderful French single cab has prompted me to post as well. Here's Bluebird at work. His first two jobs were to haul bricks and pallets to the dump, and the second to haul wood to my back yard.

Man I need an empty bus for a tool hauler. The high-top Westy doesn't work.

Those are test cylinders to ensure concrete strength right? My old landlord works for a place called Central Premix. All the flowerbeds at his rental house are surrounded with those cylinders. Decent looking and he got them for the best price...free. _________________ 1970 Westfalia w/ Adventurewagen Top |
