Last weekend I threw a tarp in the bus and loaded it up with a ton of mulch from the local composting facility. Yep it was FREE!
I just kept shoveling and shoveling and it just wouldn't fill up. Finally I figured I had enough for the job, but that bus could have held much more.
Its cool to use these vehicles for a different purpose than cruising and camping.

This weekend I loaded up the Bus and took some parts to the show in Campbelltown, PA. I just kept throwing stuff in there till it was just about full. She ran great for the 250+ mile ride through the mountains with long, steep inclines all the way there. This Bus is amazing. Luckily, I didpretty well in the swaps so there was some extra room in the Bus for the ride home. I still haven't unpacked it. I have no idea how much it weighed, but it was enough to squat the rear end down!!
Here it is, all laid out in the swap...not too bad for one Busload huh?

My wife has a Painted Furniture business. http://www.susiesfunart.com
The Bus is great for making yard sale finds.
Look at the size of the dressers it holds.

I hear ya!
I helped my brother in-law move and he had a dresser and some other tables. I told him I would bring my bus by and load it up. He was like oh thats cool we can just make two trips. I said that wont be necessary. He was still skeptical. Sure enough we loaded everything up in one trip! _________________ '77 transporter 2.0 FI—September 24, 1976 |

Patrick199,
Quit holdin' off on us, man! Tell us about the wheels and the roof racks. I've been looking for that style of wheel but don't want to change bolt pattern or spacing.
Very coooool, dude!

Sorry, wasn't paying attention.
i got the wheels from cip1.com about two years ago.
I made the racks myself - probably one of my greatest welding achievements but there are flaws in the design.
I never found a good way to attach them to the bus without doing something crazy like cutting through the roof. Ended up poking a few holes in the gutters and using little stainless steel bolts and nuts to hold them down.
Now that they are off I have little holes in the gutters right outside the doors. I'm sure there is a much better way. |

Love the adaptability of the vw bus, no doubt.

Patrick, my rack is the same way, though I lack the skills to even think about welding the rack together myself. It came a bus I bought a while back. I am working on making plans for it since quite a few people have asked about putting one together. About the gutters though, that's how mine is also attached. Not pretty, but it does work.
You can see another shot of the rack (with a link to the full size image) here: http://calivw78.com/v/rides/78_transporter/071205_2641.jpg.html |

Sadly i don't have any pictures.
So far what i've hauled in my bus includes the engine out a '68 Chevelle that we have almost fully restored, about $8,000 worth of Matco tools in the chest (took the entire bus and weighed about 1,000 pounds), every single thing i own when i moved out, and all of our camping gear while every else rode in the nice suburban with A/C (wimps). _________________ 1972 Deluxe named Lucidity
