Use a air dryer to watch it expand.

Remove the thermostat and pull on the linkage to ensure it's not binding.

When cold the thermostat should be tight and compact. A hair dryer will make it expend quickly.

If the thermostat works it will be about this size when completely cold.

I have tested it it works but not very easily. The main rod that controls the flaps seems to rub against the case what should i do to solve that?

You have to make it move freely. If it jams closed, you'll cook the engine.

I am not talking about the theromstat rod i am talking about the rod that connect the two flaps in order to open the flaps at the same time. if you need pics i can get them.

Glen - do you have an image of the correct hole that the thermo rod goes through?

I found out the problem why the rod was rubbing on the case. It was installed on the opposite side.
