Problem solved. The rod connection on the flap, that curved piece (mine was a "c" shape) should be bent in a loop. If it's in the shape of a "c" then it got stretched out from its circular shape when the shroud was taken off without the rod being disconnected first. Simple when you know. It work fine now. Thanks everyone for your input and your patience. |

Oh, by the way. Does anyone have any of those clips that attach to the flaps and they also secure the flaps bar (bar between the two flaps on either side of the shroud) to the flaps. Or where I can get some. I need a few. Thanks |

Thanks, I've got the thermostat. I need the clips you see outside the shroud that are on the flaps and the bar between the flaps. Anyone have any not being used? Are these still available? |

Ace Hardware has clips that will work fine on the flaps and control arms. |

Yea, I was just trying to stick with original stuff when I can, even though I would be the only one that would know that behind my shroud a original retaining clips. Yes, I'm sick. Just thought I would check with everyone. PM me if you have clips. Thanks |

On a related note, here's the state of my fan. The photo is viewed from the bottom of the fan housing:
You can see that everything except the flaps themselves is gone. This includes the thermostat, connecting rod, and the rest of the hardware and spring. To add to it, one of the flaps is rusted:
Judging by this thread, the best I can do is buy the parts piecemeal and just figure out how they all go. Anybody know of a kit with instructions, or something that might make it easier? _________________ 1971 Bug in restoration: http://vw-restoration.blogspot.com |
