I can get the same from ISP for half that and know that includes shipping. And I thought ISP could be expensive.
If it were a rare part or near unobtanium, but that mount is about as common as it can get. And, I would think it would be a common part in EU as well.
Ah well. I do appreciate honesty on shipping prices. |
Bert does have 5 pages of rare parts & includes shipping & PayPal in his prices.
He has a few parts/tools I'd like to have. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

I think it has more to do with scarcity in Europe?
Someone from Europe would have to answer whether that is a hard piece to find there.
I agree it's not something that would be super hard to find in the USA if you live here.
I sold a rubber donut piece and the rod for $20 recently. No bolt _________________ How to Post Photos

Careful, you may not like the price on that particular part my friend. But Bert is one of the few that even bother to find, list and sell hard to find T3 stuff for us all. Food for thought. |
I've gotten some really good stuff from Bert over the years.
The price does seem high for that item - but, as you stated, it's asking very little compensation for the time spent sourcing parts, photographing, listing, responding to emails from flakes who say they want it then disappear, packing, shipping. For the price, he's likely making a few Pfennig per hour for the time he's spending selling that part.
Personally, I don't bother selling a part for less than about $40, unless it's something I think will sell quickly. I'll either give away the nickel and dime stuff to friends who need it, or toss it if it takes up too much shelf space in my garage. _________________ 1988 Ford Festiva L

So you can chat with your homies, blast the stereo and run the battery down from 20ft away. _________________

That makes sense.

This gentleman in Ann Arbor has two adverts for type 3 engines in the Samba classifieds.
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2407836
and
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2432763.
One is asking $900 and the other $1k. Both ads are over a year old and have been renewed a couple of times. The seller, John Finn, appears to be a professional VW parts guy. All is good so far, if he was straight about his prices he'd probably have it sold already, but he doesn't.
For starter, he only has ONE engine. He told me he raised the price to $1k, that's why there is two (renewed) adverts.
He is asking for a $200 core charge. I don't get the core charge for a fully dressed engine, so I ask. I have a couple of blocks and a lot of the stuff that goes on to them, but I'm not sure what parts he wants to consider it a core worthy of $200 in his eyes. He tells me "simple-pay the core charge"
I replied, offering $800 cash ($100 less than his $900 advert) and no core fee. His response was:
"dear sir i need your money less than you need an engine if someone want it before i die they can buy , it if not it will be scrap metal to make beer can for china you and other type three owners choice you can decide"
If this "businessman" wasn't running a scam 'core charge' he'd have $1200 in his pocket. But he does, so he doesn't. |

Has owned a VW catalog parts company in Auburn Hills Michigan for decades.
Has a website now.
I used to order lots of stuff for my '92 GTI back in the 90s from their catalogs.
People sure can change in 20 years...
Volkswagen Group of America also happens to be located in Auburn Hills Michigan.
Maybe he had a contract long time ago to buy their leftover stuff? |

Well, he does state in the ad that he's not in a hurry to sell. Must be testing the waters. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I wonder if he works at the Parts Place in Auburn Hills, and is selling some parts for them. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Yup, I've bought some over priced stuff from them (the Parts Place) in the past. A friend of mine has a bunch of their water cooled bits in his Golf from them. They've been there for 20+ years selling stuff. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

This one...
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2500561
Asking $12,500 for a 66 Fastback with an engine missing cooling tin, fan shroud being held together with hopes and dreams because the fasteners seem to be missing, wrong glass in the rear quarter windows, a hacked up rear tray with plywood nailed to it and an axle replaced with a rag but somehow 'it runs great'?
