Over the years, I've bought several and never paid more than $35 for one.

You know the type of people you are getting these parts from...when you finally get them on the phone...and NOS....is pronounced as a word... "Noss"....like the cast of "fast and furious would describe nitrous oxide...... Laughing

Perhaps I posted too soon...same seller with another super ambitious price:
$100 Pair Laughing

The 'four slot' version is the late one...the earliest ones were brown/red (bakelite), then came the three slot version, and finally, this four slot version.

This is about a $25/piece part at best, IMO.

How much would you pay for a set of used, dirty dual carbs? Not water damaged, complete and havnt been kicked around a box with other crap beating them up?

Im thinking maybe 80-120? Less if you are at a swap?

Whats this then?

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1625057

Or this sweetheart.

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1445266

Now how much would one pay for a restored set with all the bits? Say a single port version up to 66ish? All the bits. Restored AC, Carbs with the balance tube and all the brackets wingnuts and all?

I have a complete, 1964 only set listed for $60 shipped. To me, that's a good deal...they'll need work but they're correct and have all of the proper parts. I just don't need them.

The guy asking $360 for a pair of dirty carbs is never going to sell them - you can buy completely rebuilt carbs for about $40 more.

Other than that, it actually looks like a pretty solid car. Just a little misguided... I do however find "working electric sunroof" a little concerning as well. And it should probably have door handles.

That's half of what I paid for the whole car!

I saw yours listed. Thats a good price for yours. I was poking around to find a nice set to complete a set with the other bits I had laying around. Funny part is we can make more off of the rods, swivel, air cleaner than a whole working complete set Laughing

Very nice car.
But I remember the same car was for sale last year :

1964 Type 3 Notchback S Price: £9000

I'm not complaining about the price. But what strikes me is that last year the car was still wearing it's OG paint, and now it has been repainted ...

I wonder why they repainted it, it looks really nice in the original paint

Exactly. People admire sunburnt rusty cars for their 'awesome patina', but a decent OG paint car gets repainted.
It did have a scratch on the driver's door though.

Maybe accident damage, and the price went up to cover the repaint cost. The thing is, cost and price are not strongly related... when you sell you rarely get what you put into it if you hired out all the work. Just speculating here...

I don't know about rusty but worn original paint?
Many of them are worth more left original.
Sometimes far more, especially when the repaint/restoration is sub-par.
This is a Bus I can think of a 23-Window right now that is possibly worth less, even though it's been "restored". (Quotes intentional)

I should have put a Wink in there.

Yeah OG paint....even with a few scratches and dings....with NO MAJOR RUST OR RUST THROUGHS.....fully agree. It can be worth a lot because its original and especially since it has not been d*cked up.

But....sorry....9 out of 10 of rusty "patina" cars....are not like a 1930 pickup that has been sitting in the desert.....with paint all burned off.....but has metal 1/8" thick...never had any plastic to speak of.... not much rubber...and maybe 8 wires in it.

One of those.....can be pristine....and have the sun burned patina preserved....and its worthy. 9 out of 10 VW's I have seen with patina being the centrepiece.......are rust buckets posing as valuable "patina'd" survivors/antiques. Just what I have seen....Ray

Had the owner opted to retain its OG paint, that Notchback would have been a living testament to the quality of German paints used during those days. Well, it is already water under the bridge now though.

Way back in 2000 when I bought my 63 sunroof notch from Lars Neuffer, it was this car I wanted first. It sold quick and I was disappointed. Then Lars said he was looking at another that week and the rest is history. Rolling Eyes Laughing
