Catching up on my E mails, after a weekend of goofing off and work today. I must say I had a great time. Was able to meet most people in attendance and see most of what was going on.
Took my Syncro for a short trip up the hill and rode along with the wheelin master Eric. As my truck is not really set up for heavy duty Wheelin ,Eric was nice enough to take my older son and let him drive his Camo rig. Along for the ride was my 8 year old ,who can not wait for next year.
lots of great people and some interesting engine conversions as well. My particular interest is Tristars , so I really appreciated the very nice Maroon Tristar . Makes me salivate knowing he has an even nicer one at home.
So please chime in. This was my second and not my last.

Check the "youtube" video, you can hear your 8 year old having a good time in the back of my Syncro!
Always a great time!

Lots of carnage this year. I was able to drive a beautiful TDI conversion, now I must have one! (thanks Dan!)
Seth's orange paint was something to behlod! PPG show car color with pearl!
New faces, old and dusty ones too, great time, even fun for the kids!
I have a few t-shirts left if anyone wants one. _________________ Vanagon/Transporter flares here: www.terrawagen.com

I came just for Saturday, and had a great time. Stacy, sounds like you better hang on to the syncro. I'm going to get mine sorted out better for more difficult off-road duty. I'll post a few pics later. _________________ Charlie

If you want to do my truck first Eric, there is a TDI for sale out here! I love the 5 cylinder but the mileage is killing me. I wish I had made it to SDM. Looks like you had a good time as usual.

Had a nice time. Camped up with past friends and made new ones.
Seemed just like I was driving too SDM08 but woke up today and it is
already over and back to work now. 8-(
Don T, it was great camping with you and sharing the fire-pit with
yourself, the two Tom S's (so many Tom's at the show), and VWLover
from The Samba. Always fun staring at the fire and yapping, drinking
beer, and sharing stories. Met other folks during the event and
enjoyed our chats. Food was good (although they needed a nice gooey
dessert of somekind to feed our sugar fixes) and I am looking forward
to next year already.
As normal, there are a handful of worker bee Syncros that seem to be
always heading up the hills for some pollen, poison oak, and stories
to bring back to camp. Bent drive-shafts by Bill, broken CV joints by
Jeb, and roll overs by Seth. What more can you ask for? Like
Disneyland for adults!
Thanks all for a nice time. Was smaller this year. This was my 3rd
time attending and last years seemed huge. This year there was less
people, less Syncros, and less Saturday show-ups, but either way, I
would not miss the event.
Thanks to all those including John W that make this show possible.

it was wonderful meeting everyone at syncro de mayo. it was great to meet all the owners of the other tristars there - shaun, stacy, charlie, and eric! it was just as awesome to meet new people as well as reacquainting with old friends.
i am just happy that jack finished my tdi conversion just in time to make the event. i enjoyed every minute of it and the 29 mpg for the entire trip does not hurt either.
craig, i was looking forward to see you, your family, and your truck at syncro safari and syncro de mayo. oh well, maybe next event.

I was really hoping we were going to make both this year, but things with my Mom have been really rough. I am hoping next spring we will be more free to get out. It would have been great to catch up with everyone again. How are you liking the TDI?

let's hope that we all get some time to catch up at some point. the tdi engine is wonderful. it has a lot more torque than my gowesty 2.5 with a lot more fuel economy. i was able to go from hollister to san diego on one tank of gas! that would be 432 miles - it was on the red when i got home. i did not have to downshift on any of the mountain passes and the lowest speed i got was 55 mph. my tristar currently has 27" bfgoodrich on 14" alloys with a .70 fourth gear. 75 mph is at 3200 rpm. if you are considering another engine, look into it - it is worth the price!!!

Joey,
How do you put a diesel engine in a car that's regeistered as a gas car? As far as CA is concerned, I need to pass smog every 2 years. _________________ Charlie

charlie,
you just need to go to a bar referee and he looks at it to make sure it is a deisel engine and gives you a peice of paper for the dmv - just turn the engine on so they can hear and smell deisel - that's it. go to the dmv, they will ask for the bar paperwork and you then get your new registration and title over the mail. brent harris, dan fleming, and jack seuferer all went thru the same process. hope this helps.
