Car is a 1976 standard beetle.

I want to hook up the radio properly to a circuit which is switched on by the ignition switch.

Which fuse should I tap into on the 12-fuse panel under the hood?

I might also use the same circuit to power a relay for a new six-fuse block for other accessories such as a 12V outlet for iPod power, a power amplifier for the stereo, and other electronics.

Thanks

I'd use your volt meter, or a test light. If its off when the ign. is off and on when the 'acc' is on, then its what you want.
You do have a meter or test light when you install electrical equipment, right?

There is no "Acc" circuit on a beetle. As noted above just use a test light and find a fused terminal that is hot with the key on and not when it's off.

It would be the second from the left (looking at the fuse panel from inside the trunk) on the '76, I do believe.

It's possible to create an acc position with a small relay and the buzzer wire from the ignition. Accessories stay on till you remove the key.

I hooked my voltmeter up to this as well so I can monitor my battery while listening to the stereo and running the gas heater.

Since I wasn't using the buzzer as a key in warning I moved one wire at the fuse box and now it buzzes when I open the door with the lights on. Saved my battery many times so far.
