I recently purchased a 72 VW SB that has an engine code of AK157272.

VIN is 1122784068.

I have searched the forum and looked at the technical section under engine codes and have not found any AK codes.

Thanks.

It's a replacement case.

AK's are good cases too... should be dual relief with big oil galley's and 8mm studs with factory case inserts.

AK should be a 73-74 vintage case with all the features Keith listed.

I know this tread is old, but AK engines are not replacement cases. My '73 Super has an AK case and Wolfsburg confirmed that it is the original engine.

Yep, AK was a fairly common 1973 case, along with AH.
