I finally got the carpet in Wilma's trunk replaced. It had old brown carpet in it and I replaced it with black 'automarine' carpet from Menard's. I cut out a base of luan paneling and added wings with hinges to make it easier to put in and take out. Here are a few pics.

The first new front tires for my 1962 Beetle in decades, LOL. I recently got it running again after it sat idle for two years. Apparently it was just a problem with the points. I drove it down the highway for a bit yesterday and it's running well. I also a got new horn ring for the steering wheel because mine has always been broken off.
I've had this car for almost 30 years. When I bought it the Bug had been sitting in a field for about 10 years I think. It's never been repainted as far as I can tell, and it looks like it It still has an original old Continental spare tire in the trunk.

Finally got my '66 moving under its own power again. It's been off the road since 1997 (when my dad popped the engine on the way home from the Great Canadian Bug Show). I've got a slightly aggressive engine from a Formula 1200 car in it right now so it should have a bit more jam than before. This car has been in the family since new, my uncle was the original owner and my father bought it from him in 1994.
My uncle thought it would be a good idea to add a third brake light to the decklid, using an early turn signal assembly with the lens painted red.
Me with the car in 1989 at age 6.
My daughter with the car now. _________________ '60 Canadian Standard, '64 Bug, another '64 Bug, '66 Bug, '69 Sunroof Bug, '69 GT3 Bug, '71 Super, '72 Super, '73 Canadian Custom, '74 Love Bug, '83 Mexi Bug, '85 Cabrio, '94 Mexi Bug, '99 New Beetle, '02 New Beetle Turbo S, '03 New Beetle VR6. I got a new 1965 Red beetle with all original interior.
hauled it home, cleaned it, ordered all the brake parts, went through my parts mountain, and had fun planning it out.
The original engine is roached and missing parts, so I'm putting a nice mildly built 1600dp in it. I had it in half a dozen times when I learned about 6v transmissions not fitting 12V engines.
I learned about grinding out the 6V transmissions, and so I did that!
Installed the engine, now I need to convert everything to 12V so I can start it. I want to keep the original radio at all costs so gotta get a resistor for that and the wiper motor.
It sat since 1974 in a climate controlled and dry environment so it's in decent shape. I won't fix a single dent or rusty spot until it runs and drives. There's been lessons learned there before. _________________ 1966 Sunroof Bug, dual-port 1600, drop spindles, roof rack, fresh resto

Started the weekend by tuning the old girl up. Oil change etc, etc. Decided to take the kids to the beach….. The long way. Drove 120 miles to Montauk Point Long Island, checked out the light house, ate lunch the headed back towards home. Decided to stop at Jones Beach Long Island for ice cream. Funny how a bug can put even teenagers to sleep at 3200 rpm. Wound up getting 37.5 mpg (all highway). What a great day!

Drove it.
Replaced the frayed and leaking fuel hose under the car, which was the source of a gas smell all around and inside the car getting worse and worse. Car had been parked a few days prior the diagnosis and repair due to rainy weather, and the leaking fuel burned a 2 inch wide hole through my driveway. (In fact that was 2 weeks ago.)
Drove it some more, with improved fuel consumption, and no more smell.
Tried to diagnose tail lights and rear blinkers last week. Left side blinker's cable got loose and unplugged. Right side's, I could get it to work by bending the bulb holder's contact upward... it improved its reliability, but I think it still misses sometimes. Rear parking and brake lights are also flaky. Have more work to do in this area. Also found out the hazard switch only light up the right side's blinkers.
This late afternoon I went picnicking with the kids, and met this beauty on the way, so I took a photo:

Got a toe adjustment on the front end. Amazing what happens when both wheels are working together to go straight. |

Changed my wheels from BRM's to Rocket Industries.
From this,
To this,
Go to a show. And you''ll see many cars with BRM's. Not so many with Rocket wheels.
I sourced some center cap decals reBay,
