Yeah Greg, the cap is just like on old school gas can or turpentine can cap. I got the trailer here today from Phoenix. It's in nice shape and the kitchen is a bonus. Here are some pics:

Post up your model year and VIN when you get a chance. It looks like the easiest design change to identify is the flange on the bottom of the side doors. It looks this comes about in 1960.
Envious, it looks like your 58 and 64 should add important data to the puzzle.
Here are same dates and ID#'s from singlewheel.com
Year VIN
1953 24
1954 553
1956 1120
1956 1289
1957 1804
1959 2285 |

mine is a 55 and #639 it also had glass taillights as opposed to the plastic ones on later models. i sold those to bill from fremont as i converted mine to a 2 wheeler and figured the plastic ones would be harder to break |

Are there any "rails" or traces of rails in your storage area for the kitchen to sit in? Mine has none, butthe storage area is just wood. |

We saw one of those at the 2007 Deschutes Bus RendezVW in Maupin, OR last summer. I was mesmerized by such a cool lightweight trailer. I took many photos and several sketches of all the features and it's construction witht the thought I could make something similar for myself. I will post some pics as soon as I can.

No rails in mine either, but the rollers are present on the kitchen. I like how the legs fold the "right way" so that you can roll the unit into the trailer kinda like an ambulance stretcher.
My trailer compartment has a middle support under the center of the bed platform. I am not sure if it is factory. |

Camped in the Cuyamaca mountains over Labor day. I got a flat on the way up but luckily I had just pumped up the spare. Other than that it was all good.

1967 Heilite Valiant with some cool options.
Has a pull out stove top and serving table plus the original awning.
It's for sale by the way.

That is a beautiful trailer. I just wish it wasn't $600 away from my home. |

Hey Heilite trailer afficianados! What do you think of this one, and what it would be worth? A buddy of mine is leaving the state and offered it to me, but I have no idea of value. The canvas is all there, but the zipper needs to be restitched....it's a 1958 btw.
