|
|
My clutch pedal return was very soft this morning, so I pulled the rear wheel and saw that the clutch return spring had broken.
Is the repair as simple as loosening the clutch cable unbolting the release lever, slipping new spring in and rebolting everything back up?
.....or is there something that's bound to go wrong?
Thanks.

It sometimes take quite a bit of force to get that spring on right, and the arm back on, but there is no real trick to it. |

Thanks.
I did search the topic and that seems to be the opinion, based on what I could find. I just wanted to check and see if there was anything that I needed to look out for, or be aware of. |

Agree it's no big problem...I did it a while back. You can catch a medium screwdriver in the hook and pull it back. Good luck. _________________ Joe

Done.
After trying the commonly recommended method of installation (put bottom edge of spring in place..then use medium phillips screwdriver to pry hooked end over lever)....and having a hell of a time doing it (as soon as I got the top of the spring near the lever, the flat bottom edge would slip off the ledge and I'd have to start all over again)....here's what I did:
Remove clutch cable
Remove lever
Put spring in place and re-attach lever
Put hooked end of spring over lever
Grab hold of straight end of spring with a pair of Diagonal Pliers pull spring end in place.
Tap spring as far back on the ledge as possible.
Reconnect everything
Get you kids to put away the tools.
25 minutes (after hours of fighting the other method).
The magic tool:

Just be careful not to create a notch in the spring from the cutter blades, or that weak point can eventually crack and fail. |

Good point.
I grabbed the spring about an 1/8" from the end just for that reason. One quick pull and it was in place. |
