I really didn't pay much attention to what everyone had been saying about the USA being a great travel value to the europeans but in the past two weeks I've had 2 Norwegians on BMW motorcycles doing a world tour(8 months long so far) and a group of 3 Austrians in my restaurant. Looks like it might be an interesting summer. Oh and I'm in Hastings, Nebraska which isn't right off a major highway so they are getting off the beaten path. The motorcycle guys left a business card and a website detailing their trip. www.bmw-touring.com if anyone is interested. _________________ My last fortune cookie said:

My cousin from Spain came over with 8 of her friends in March and spent a week in New York. They came to shop. Funny, ain't it? Coming to NY to buy American brands made in China. _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

Kai and Frode were the two in America, the first 2 in the profile. I was a little worried about them. I had checked the website a couple of times after they were in on May 1st. They said they had to be in New York on May 5th to ship the bikes out. They didn't post anything for about a week after, they would have been through Arkansas and other areas where there were tornadoes and such. I thought some thing might have happened weatherwise. _________________ My last fortune cookie said:

as a resident of Great Britain and not a Euro clone.. I must say that the dollar value has a big say in an American holiday.
however...
We have imported your US TV shows for hundreds of years... so we want to live the dream, stand in the place of gods like Cannon, Mork and Mindy, Ironside, starsky and Hutch, Emergency Ward 10, Miami Vice, Hill st blues...the list goes on.
your country may not be rich in notable history.. but the latter half of the twentieth centuries entertainment... is yours.... beyond doubt
we come to pay homage to the "American way" (according to Hollywood) |

I have been watching the monetary markets, and it appears that our weak dollar is dragging down the rest of the world's currency's and economy's.
It increasingly seems to me that our role in the world is to live the high life, otherwise the peasant nations suffer.

Boston Harbor comes to my mind. About 1776.

I wouldn't take the 'rich in notable history' remark the wrong way. I certainly don't see it as any sort of a slam. Compared to Europe, esp. Italy and Greece which had ancient civilizations, we aren't. We've been rich in entertainment and industrial/ mechanical innovations, but we've never had a surplus of great philosophers or thinkers, or anything even approaching a Renaissance. It's not a judgment, just a fact. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

It's nice to know that the ancient civilization known as the Native American Indian isn't very notable.
Tourism is the main business in our little town amongst the natural wonders of this land. We'll take your Euros. 2002 was the worst year on record for our lil' town because of 9/11. We'll take this economic slump to turn that around and invite all the peoples of this world to come visit. Just don't expect anything rich in cultural heritage from the Natives of this land. Please refrain from visiting Mesa Verde, thank you. _________________ CU05 w/HBB

My thoughts exactly. Just because they weren't big on writing stuff down does not mean that they were not brilliant. _________________ -Tom-

Funny how the generally accepted "history of America" seems to start when the Europeans arrived. _________________ 20‰

Hey, Mike----I think you might be overlooking two important reasons why you are seeing European visitors. First...Hastings is, of course, the birthplace of Kool-Aid. But more significantly...you are only a half hour drive south of Coad's place. |

You're right. Classical music, classical literature, philosophy, mathematics, physics, astronomy... they don't mean shit. If it weren't for Europeans, nobody outside of native Americans would know anything about the native American cultures. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.
