Wonder if anyone can tell around what year and perhaps where this pic was taken.
Maybe by the type of cars or the license plates? During WWII or after? Tried to enlarge the convertible (did a crappy job )

I am pretty sure the trucks in the front are hanomag's built by Hebmuller started in 51 , mostly for fire brigade and grenzschutzpolizei ( border controle )
http://www.hanomag-museum.de/html/hanomag-museum-f...abrio.html
In front of the Beelte convertible is a Tempo Matatdor, With the special roof , also made by hebmuller and this after the production of the type14a and 18a. So also around 1951...
http://www.tempo-dienst.de/Museum/mus_0022.htm
Why they have these helmets is not known. Maybe they are TSW crew: Technische Hilfs werke ( crew to help with disasters ) _________________ Zelensis, glassfibre body made in Belgium , disigned and built on a VW platform About 25 body's built.
Hebmuller info wanted for http://www.hebmueller-registry.com/home.html |

Thanks Peter you're a wealth of knowledge. So it seems this picture does not belong in this thread unfortunately. If any of the mods want to remove my above post feel free. |

The THW Technisches Hilfs Werk and the fire brigades used this shape of helmets for decades after the war. Some fire brigades till today.
So this pic can well be some years post war. _________________ Master of my domain! |

This is post war. I cannot remember where, but somebody has confirmed it. What Peter says is correct.
The convertible looks like a standard Karmann for polizei.

It's funny seeing all these big sized Nazis in their equaly big woollen coats getting in and out of of these little cars! My kids and their buddies are now over 6ft tall, 200lbs, in good shape and in shorts and t-shirts have a hell of a time fitting in the back seat of my bug with my seat up as far as I can stand lol |

Marcus the book is called "Hitler's Chariots - Volkswagen From Nazi People's car to New Beetle" by Blaine Taylor. Not the best book on VW history (and nothing about the New Beetle ) but it has a lot of pictures and some I did not see before like this one. The text with the picture says it was taken in April 1944 at Salzburg, Austria. |

If you mean getting a better book: don't worry I already have many others . Best on early VW history for sure is Barber's book Birth of the Beetle . |

Ah I get it now No sorry, no other pic of car no. 31 with the top up in this book. Apparently the car was not driven (or photographed) a lot with the top up. You can see the split rear window quite well in this pic though. Good luck on your search! |

Goering shakes hands with Hitler at Bertchesgaden in this photo dated 1944. Note the Hitler cabriolet, right; the Type 62 prototype, left; and what may be a Kommandeurwagen, center.
