My throttle cable does not have a "hook" on one end, it is a solid circle.

Has anyone used a M6 bolt and nut to secure this to the lever? Or a clevis pin? If so, do you know the sizes I need to get?

Thanks

Take the cable and lever to the hardware store, find a bolt that fits through the hole, find a nylock nut for it, go home and install it. Make sure to use grease on the pivot points.

Does anyone have a picture of how the gas pedal return springs are supposed to be installed? (The thin L shaped flat pieces of metal) Do they just jam under the hinge and against the floor?

It's not really a return spring (the spring at the carb does that)

It's job is to make sure the hinge pin does not slide out.
The hing pin has a flat or narrower section in the middle for this leaf spring to sit in.

111 721 529A That don't look like a bus part? Says it's for a Beetle pedal.

I had to go look this up, but for my 67 according the the Bentley book I don't use such a part...

Funny how Bently also shows L bracket inside the 'J' shaped bracket

I would just cut the loop near the end to make an opening for the cable to attach to the L bracket.
See the accelerator cable for my bus has the opening when new...

Now: Cable eye hooked directly

There you have it. (I can only really speak for my bus, since I don't have the experience/wisdom from having many diff year buses.

Less parts, newer, better ?

I dont have a pic handy of my cable end, but its beefy almost cast like - not just a complete circle of your version, even if I cut a slot it in, it still wouldnt hook into the hole, unless I made a giant hole. For the record, a M5 bolt fits the hole in the WW bracket perfectly, I bought the shortest length Lowe's had. I put a washer on the head side, and the nut side, with nylock nut. Good enough for now I suppose.

59 Panel. Hole relocated for more throw at the carb linkage. Spring added for more snap at the pedal. Shimmed at the bracket so it doesn't wiggle. Washers welded to the pushrod so it doesn't slip through. Works perfectly!

Yes, it's an August Bus. Super early '61.

To add another data point, the pin is pictured in my '59 shop manual.

I've got a OE VW bus repair manual at the house, if I can remember I'll see if I can find this in it and lay this to rest.

Another vote for the side mounting.

October 1960 Single Cab with ~43k miles.

Original hardware. 1 month before the change in how the cable attaches to the L bracket.

Well the manual I had was all body measurements, I had not even looked through it all the way yet so didn't know. I did look under mine though 65 one owner always serviced at the dealer (guy next door worked at the dealer and always worked on this bus for the old owner) and the arm is on the outside of the J and the cable is hooked through the hole.
