After reading this thread I pulled my splash pan to have a look. Sure enough, mine was center mounted in the pivot bracket. My pedal has always felt sloppy and loose.

I noted that when mounted on the side of the bracket the rod is now absolutely vertical rather than tilted as when center mounted.

The test drive said it all.....side mount is definitely the way to go. The pedal is firm and smooth now. I dig it. Great info here.

I did the same and it was inside the j bracket so I switched it. I actually went and bought the kit from WW just to replace it and bought the floor seal.

Can anyone tell me the diameter of the hole where the accel linkage goes through the floor? I don't have another bus with a decent floor to measure from.

I measured it previously as 1 1/8".

Buy 2, they wear out and tear up within in a year. Sad

Yes, the floor seal. The one in my '63 rips "frequently". I think I'm on the 3rd or 4th one in 3-4 years.

time to make your own. i bought mine in july 2005 from wolfsburg west. still nice. square foamy stuff you peel off white paper and stick on top of floor around both pedals. i have the 2 rubbers that look kinda like they belong on a spark plug wire on bottom below floor also.

There are several pedal link rods of different geometry, I've seen. You need the right one with the right lever placement or it will bind and lean and wear. Yeah, the aftermarket floor bellows hang up especially if the original rod has been replaced. A little teflon grease helps but I usually enlarge the hole to an oval hole.

Yes, I was talking about the rubber bellows.

It sticks on the rod and I think this tears it over time.

I did grease one of them with normal axle grease, very lightly. I realize now that I think that eats the rubber? If there is something preferable to use, let me know the exact grease to purchase.

Use 1001, and it does NOT eat rubber...

Faucet stem lubricant is great for "o" rings in plumbing applications & is waterproof as well.

I put mine together the way it came apart less the old spring on the pivot pin really just a spacer to keep pin from moving. Previous was a bunch of washers. turned out very nice. I had to drill the hole where the down rod connects to the new bracket by 1/32 and it moves so easily with no slop.

The accelerator pivot goes on the outside of the J-shaped bracket.

I noticed your bracket is still centered in the hole though so it's possible the J-shaped bracket is bent a little. It sort of looks like it to me. Notice how mine is straight up and down.

You don't need the spring if it's on the outside and it's more solid overall.

Just for posterity's sake, I just disassembled the throttle linkage on my 57 Kombi and these were the exact parts that came off. It was also mounted to the side of the J bracket. I came in here to search and make sure I had all the parts I needed.

The classic Everettb under floor accelerator linkage has me stumped. Looking at it, appears as if when the pedal is NOT depressed that the pedal to underfloor pivot arm is centered in the rubber bellow floor seal? Right now my rod that goes through the floor is at the edge of the hole through the floor when no pedel depressed. This photo is the closest I can find to be able to tell if the rod is supposed to be in the center of the floor hole when relaxed pedal.

My '61 above is centered but my '63 Deluxe is at the rear edge when relaxed.
I haven't had any issues with it binding up.

I checked my old '64 Deluxe (low mileage Bus) and it looks like it was well-centered too.

Hopefully others can provide some input too.
