Hi!

I recently acquired the Shifter Storage Console made by Rhino Designs and purchased through GoWesty. This is for my 1990 Vanagon GL with an automatic trans and a EJ22 conversion.

First, I really like the design and construction of the console. Kudos to Rhino for this.

I had a few questions about the installation of the console that I hope folks can answer:

1. The console came with 2 .25"/3.5" self-driving screws that go though the countersunk holes in a bracket inside the console. Easy enough, but Iím concerned about the 3.5í' length of the screws. I donít know whatís on the other side when I drill these screws in and I donít want to hit anything. So, I wonder whether I could go with shorter screws (e.g. 2.5Ē length) just to be safe.

2. From the photos on GoWesty, it looks like folks mount the console on top of the center floor mat. I was thinking of trimming my mat first before mounting so that I can easily remove the mat for cleaning. What do you guys think?

Thanks!

This one?

They say those screws are optional.
They are also harmlessly placed.

Personally, I wouldn't install them but ........

Well, there isnít much in that area and it is easy to check before hand.
Just drop the spare tire and take a look.
Heater valve is up there but forward of the shift assembly.
