|
|
Since my hellish parade today...I realize that I need a sump to help cool the oil. I don't have anything on now but the stock case, but am going to buy one. I would like to get the 1.5 quart due to the price difference from the 3 quart. I am running a 1776cc, dual Kadrons, 110 cam. With this engine set-up... do you guys think a 1.5 quart will do me ok? the 1 1/2 qt will do just fine but if you are hitting higher RPMs and maybe doing some highway time now that gas is almost $4 around the country, the 3 qt will hold a little extra insurance. A little more pricey now but even with the 1776 your still going to get better gas mileage than that dodge durango in the neighbors front drive, so put a little more love into the car. _________________ Phillip Stevenson

That engine combination should not overheat. Find the overheating problem. Then worry about the sump. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

Adding the deep sump will give you more capacity for oil which will deter oil starvation, however if you're having issues with over heating, it will not cure the problem. You need to figure out why it's running hot & resolve that problem. As far as capacity, having the 3 qt. sump will not hurt, but the 1.5 would be fine. _________________ www.vintageperformance.net |

I guess i missed the overheating. You wouldnt happen to have a misplaced oil cooler on the engine do you. I saw a post earlier today with a cooler just in front of the dog house and the guy couldnt figure out why it was overheating.
Also, what is your indication of overheating? _________________ Phillip Stevenson

Either sump is good, but realize some 3 qt sumps sacrifice ground clearance to some degree or another. Fine for a stock height car if you're careful but can be catastrophic on a lowered ride with a schmaltz at the wheel... or so I've heard. _________________ Southside Buggistas VW & kit car club
