I've stepped up to 16"s and need a place for the spare.
So have any of the guys, who have built a rear mount tire carrier for their syncro....taken any pics of the body reinforcements, you added ?
I am probably going to use a Bronco hinges...modified (I have one in my boneyard)..but I want to swing it from the drivers side...so I may, or may not use the carrier itself....might be easier to just fab that part

I was hoping to put all the reinforcement inside the pillar, just to keep it neat.
but I'm not sure just where and how to tack it all together.
Sort of like Eric's "Bundewehr" GL syncro project
Any good thoughts welcome
Thanks

I added backing plates when I mounted my Bronco II tire rack. They're about the same size as the hinge blocks. No issues so far, it's been over 2 years with some pretty heavy abuse, lots of bumps, rocky roads... and to add, I run Michelin XCL military tires with Eurovan 16" steelies which weigh quite a bit.

Just as FYI, I was able to put 16inch wheel under the nose. have 215/65r16 tires that are 27inch in diameter - they just fit. I could not use the stock spare tire tray tho, so I made a sling from steel cable, seems to work.

What kind of rack is that? How does the latch mechanism work?

Home built,
I don't have a heavy tube bender so most of it is a70's GMC bullbar I cut up and repurposed.
The latch works by pulling the 2 knobs together, to release it. works like a really strong doubled door latch,
To close it just swing it closed Thunk, click, click, your done
I've used this design before, and it never lets go
All the tire load is carried on the uhmw pads..there is a substantial support plate inside that all bolts too
